From the Desk of Owego Police Chief Joseph Kennedy

In the late evening hours of Sept. 12, a burglary occurred at a business on Lake Street where the suspect entered the business through a back door located in the alley.

Through the vigilant work of the Police Department and with the assistance of the business owner, the suspect was apprehended later that day and sent to the Tioga County jail.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to be attentive and cautious while securing your businesses and homes. Remember to keep lights on in your back alleys; if you own a camera or security system, please ensure it is working properly.

The Police Department will soon be requesting updated emergency contact information from our business owners. Please fill these forms out and return them to us so we may easily contact you in an after-hours situation that may affect your businesses.

In addition to the road patrol officers, the Police Department will be adding foot and bike patrols to watch our Village streets. Please reach out to these officers with any concerns you have regarding public safety.

We rely on the public to help keep our community safe, so if you see something, please say something.

From Sept. 1 through Sept. 9, the department had 81 calls for service, five arrests issued, 20 traffic tickets, no parking tickets, three warning tickets, and we investigated one motor vehicle accident.
