Spirits will come alive at Evergreen Cemetery on Saturday, Sept. 23 when the Tioga County Historical Society (TCHS) hosts the sixth annual cemetery walk, telling the stories of people from this area’s past and the history of Evergreen Cemetery. Tours meet at the museum at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m., noon and 1:30 p.m. This unique tour will include living history re-enactors portraying members of the county’s past.
Tours will last between 45 minutes and one hour each. Guests will meet inside the TCHS Museum before boarding a bus that will transport them to the cemetery. The museum is located at 110 Front St. in Owego.
Guests can meet Rikki Springsteed, who is compiling a history of Evergreen Cemetery, and browse the museum’s exhibits before and after the tour. Be prepared for the weather, as the tour will continue, rain or shine. Good walking shoes are a must.
Reservations for this event are encouraged due to the popularity of this event. This event is not intended to be frightening and all ages are welcome.
The cost is $12 for adults, and free for children 12 and under. Seniors, 62 and older, pay $10, and the cost is $8 for TCHS members.
Call 687-2460 by Sept. 22 to reserve a spot. Those who make a reservation will save $2 off their ticket price. All sales are final and there will be no refunds. Tickets will be available the day of the event at the TCHS Museum.
