Ryan’s Superhero Run helps local non-profit

Superheroes arrived at Hickories Park in Owego, N.Y. on June 3 sporting their favorite costume or accessory to run and walk, or ride in wheelchairs and strollers, and some brought along their canine partners for the annual “Ryan’s Superhero Run,” a 5K run and 1K run/walk.

The event benefited Kali’s Klubhouse at Fargnoli Farms, a non-profit, located at 4041 Pennsylvania Ave. in Apalachin, N.Y., which provides equine-assisted learning to individuals with social and emotional challenges and physical limitations, as well as outreach for seniors and a program for youth at risk.

Ryan Woods, the Ryan of “Ryan’s Superhero Run,” was dressed as Batman, and along with friends and family and the community, participated to raise awareness of the Kali’s Klubhouse programs.

Ryan, born 11 weeks premature and diagnosed with cerebral palsy at 13 months, has benefited from riding sessions at Fargnoli Farms, which has improved his mobility, strength and posture.  

Executive Director of Fargnoli Farms, Linda Fargnoli, was pleased with the turnout at the Superhero Run and expressed thanks for the support of area businesses and the community, as well as local law enforcement and emergency medical personnel, and all of the volunteers who make Fargnoli Farms a success.  

The Tioga Central Elementary School community showed their superhero spirit again this year by supporting Jenna Stedge’s fourth grade class who sought donations; over $2,600 was collected.

Superhero stars at the event also included Fargnoli Farms’ mini horses, Kali and Ellie, local entertainer and juggler Will Stafford, along with photo-ops with superheroes who arrived in their Batmobile and music by a disc jockey, among others.
