Hiawatha League News

Led by the offensive output of Jaeden King, Joey Mikels, Conner Riegel, Zyir VanScoy, Adam Llewellyn and Nathan Flacke, the Under-10 Hiawatha Thunder boy’s team played very well  in their match with the Athens Little Cats on Sunday.

The contest was part of the Broome County Soccer Association spring league schedule. No official team scores or standings are kept for Under-10 BCSA matches.

The Hiawatha Hawks girl’s team, competing in the Under-12 Girls Division 1 of the Broome County Soccer Association, had a busy and exciting weekend, beginning with a 4 to 1 win over Vestal at Hickories Park on Thursday, May 19 and concluding with a 4 to 0 victory over Corning on Sunday, May 22.

These wins raised the Hawks’ record to 4-0-2 on the BCSA spring season. Carmen Jorgensen (4), Erin MacDonald (3) and Taylor Dalton scored for the Hawks in these matches and Nadia Murphy and Kamala Deming limited the opponents to a single goal in these two contests.

In between these two league games, the Hawks competed in five mini-matches at a soccer festival held on Auburn on Saturday.

A second half penalty kick by Jacob Banks proved to be the difference in a 1 to 0 victory for the Hiawatha Hammerheads Under-11 boys team over the Empire Soccer Academy of Rochester on Sunday, May 22. The match was hosted at Ward’s Field in Candor.

Hammerheads coaches awarded the “shark hats” to outside backs Kaden Hover and Noah Fowler for their effective and skillful play in Sunday’s contest.
