Austyn Conti, leader of the group Angels Over Afghanistan and Iraq, is pleased to pass on the organization’s responsibilities to Rebecca Hawkins, a seventh grade student at Owego Apalachin Middle School. Austyn has been the leader for the past three years after Brianna Cart, the founder, asked her to take it over when she went to college.
Austyn has been involved in the group since the forth grade and will be graduating from Owego Free Academy in June. She is happy that the organization will be continuing as she pursues her college degree and wants to thank the community and all of the current Angels that have supported her and helped make this a successful three years.
Also a special thank you to the V.F.W. Post 1371, Les Wagner, and the Owego United Methodist Church for the use of their space for storage and as a site for their annual yard sale.
The group has sent over four tons of care packages to deployed soldiers since Brianna Cart began the group over 12 years ago. The group relies on fundraisers and donations to continue their ongoing efforts.
Hawkins will be posting a date in August for their annual yard sale, which they will be accepting donations for; you may contact her at (607) 341-0532 with any questions. Meanwhile, please “Like” and share their page on Facebook, which is where they will also have updates posted.
