Over $14,000 was raised by the 2014 Sayre Turkey Trot. The Turkey Trot 5K is an annual race organized by the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary and takes place on Thanksgiving morning each year. More than 1,000 people came along on the day to race or to cheer for the runners.

This year’s event raised over $14,000, and this money was donated to two local organizations. The Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Auxiliary presented the Sayre Theatre and the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Clinical Skills Lab and Simulation Center each with $7,000.

Sayre Theatre will use the funds towards their marquee repair project, which will help restore the marquee on the front of the building to its original glory. The Guthrie Skills Lab will use its funds to purchase new training equipment, including a femoral line insertion trainer, which will be used by Guthrie doctors, residents, and surgeons as they expand their clinical skills and expertise.

Beth Herbst, Turkey Trot race director said. “We are so pleased to be able to help reinvest the proceeds from the race back into the local community. Both of these projects will really support the people of Sayre, and it is wonderful that such a fun event can make such an impact!”
