Dear Editor,
Hello to everyone who loves Owego. I write today to encourage all residents and those concerned to become involved in the final stage of the selection of the public art installation that is to be erected along the North Avenue Pit. I appreciated being asked to join the original committee but declined because I had some conceptual input into one of the designs and felt it would be unfair to stand in judgment of the 14 original submissions.
The committee has done a fine job of selecting four finalists. These final proposals, with images, are available for viewing at the new Municipal Building on Elm Street. There has not been a lot of reporting on this project, and since the final selection will be purely subjective (from the heart) everyone’s opinion is valid. There will not be another chance once the Village Trustees make their decision.
If you do not know who your Ward’s Village Trustees are, find out and let your opinion be heard. Of course, I have a favorite, and in fact, one of the proposals contains a letter of recommendation from me.
No matter which proposal is accepted, we will have a top-notch enhancement to the North Avenue streetscape. Do not let your opportunity to be heard pass you by!
Sincerely,
Jim Mead
Owner, Early Owego Antique Center
