The Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Annual Show will be held on the weekend of March 28 and 29 at the Wysox Volunteer Fire Company Social Hall, located at 111 Lake Rd. In Wysox, Pa., the hours on Saturday are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
UVBob McGuire will present his popular fluorescent mineral shows on Saturday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m., and on Sunday at noon and 2 p.m.
This year, there will be special drawings for spectacular minerals: a 12-inch slab of quartz crystals from Arkansas, one large piece of orange dog-tooth calcite from the tri-state area, a 5-inch piece of purple amethyst from Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, and a large piece of pink calcite from the Bancroft area, Canada. There will be smaller quartz pieces for the students.
These minerals were donated by the family of Beverly Sheffield, a club member who recently passed. In addition, there will be hourly door prizes donated by the dealers at the show. Every person paying admission will receive a ticket for the drawing held each day 30 minutes before the UV shows.
Admission to the show is $3 for adults, $1 for students, and children under eight are free.
The club members are busy preparing exhibits for everyone to enjoy. The Susquehanna Valley Archeological Center of Waverly will have its display, and its volunteers will provide information on the items displayed. There will be demonstrations of wire-wrapping stones, ring making, and cabochon making.
The mini-mine for kids is still only 50 cents. Each load from the ore cart will include a dinosaur along with some colorful stones, and children may also pick out a shell and some other interesting items from the table. Geode cutting will be in the truck bay area again.
There will be dealers in minerals, gems, jewelry, fossils, and just about everything that makes rockhounds happy.
Stellas II Family Restaurant food truck will be on site.
