Candor Tai Chi begins September 4

Knock the dust off your indoor shoes because Candor Tai Chi classes start right after Labor Day. Fall classes will focus on Sun Style, which incorporates qi gong moves for improving health.

The gentle, low impact movements are beneficial for all ages and abilities, and the challenge of learning new things has been shown to benefit aging brains. Studies show that doing tai chi improves balance, strengthens leg muscles, and decreases the risk of falls. Regular tai chi practice has helped people deal with cholesterol levels, blood pressure, PTSD, Alzheimer’s disease, and Parkinson’s.

The Wednesday tai chi gathering will explore the Sun Style 73 forms. This is a fun form for people new to tai chi, and a great way for those who have taken “Tai Chi for Arthritis” classes to further explore the style. Classes meet every Wednesday from 2 to 3 p.m. for 12 weeks beginning on Sept. 4.

To register or for more information, call Sue at (607) 659-3022 or email sueheaven@gmail.com.

Simple Tai Chi will have two sessions. Part 1 will be offered on Mondays and Wednesdays at 1 p.m. beginning Oct. 16. This class focuses on simplified Sun Style forms, and the low-impact movements make this an ideal class for seniors and people suffering from arthritis.

The Part 2 class meets on Mondays from 2 to 3 p.m. starting Oct. 21 and delves into more complex forms. Both classes end Nov. 25. For registration and more information, call Terrie at (607) 624-3780 or email terrie@ticompllc.com.

Tai Chi classes are held at the Candor Emergency Squad building, 58 Main St. in Candor. Class fees are affordable and cover handouts as well as class instruction. Both instructors are active members of the Tai Chi for Health Community.
