‘Peter and the Wolf’ presented at two locations on July 2

Peter and the Wolf, a free, family-friendly program of music, stories and interactive activities for all ages will be presented at two Northern Tioga locations on Tuesday, July 2.

The Woodwind Quintet of the Orchestra of the Southern Finger Lakes (OSFL) will perform this all-time favorite, narrated story at 1 p.m. at the Berkshire Community Hall (behind the library) and at 4 p.m. in the Noble Room, 9 Park St., Newark Valley.

The music tells the story of a boy named Peter, his grandfather, a wolf, a bird, a duck, a cat, and the hunters. Composer Sergei Prokofiev uses different melodies, instruments, and styles of playing to represent each character of the story. Come listen to see which character in the story is represented by the flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, and French horn.

Other pieces on the program will include Sea Shanties by Malcolm Arnold and Shepherd’s Hey by Percy Grainger.

The programs are part of the Summer Programming at the Berkshire Free Library and the Tappan-Spaulding Memorial Library, Newark Valley.

The OSFL’s educational programs at Tioga County Libraries are made possible in part by support from the NYSCA Decentralization Funded Community Arts Grant through the Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and support from the Upstate Coalition for a Fair Game Arts Grant.
