On Tuesday, primary contests took place in Tioga County. The most watched, however, on Tuesday, was the race to fill two seats on the Town of Owego Council. Another race that was watched closely was that of Town Justice in the Town of Tioga.

For the Primary, all contests were Republican, except for Richford, which had three democratic candidates running in Tuesday’s Primary. In that contest, William E. Stell and Janet Jordan received enough votes to move them on to the General Election.

In the Town of Barton, Frederick W. Schweiger, Jr. came out ahead on Tuesday with 223 votes to Chris Spaulding’s 121.

In Candor, Connie Dence had 166 votes, coming out ahead of Nancy Leonard, who had 55 votes. Also in the Town of Candor, James Douglas and James Brixey were only separated by three votes for two Councilman seats; Matthew C. Crowe had 83 votes. For Superintendent of Highways, Kevin Noble came out ahead with 119 votes; Judith Krebs had 100.

In the Town of Nichols, William Heveland had 65 votes for Superintendent of Highways; Jordan Douglas had 29 votes and there were two write-ins.

In Owego, and for Town Council, Jonathan Marks and Barbara Roberts (incumbent), took the lead in this contest with 413 votes for Jonathan and 315 for Roberts. Paul Conti garnered 232 votes, and Kristina Burger Marcocci, 178.

In Tioga, Michele Bogart had 171 votes for Town Justice, and Miranda Fisher trailed with 121. For Superintendent of Highways, Russell E. Story had 160 votes; Tony Middendorf had 131.
