Last weekend, Ashleigh and Shelby Steele of Owego, along with members of the Kathy Hansen School of Dance competitive teams attended the United States Tournament of Dance (USTD) regional competition that was held at Binghamton University. The girls performed both their solo pieces as well as their duet and received various awards.
Both girls danced for title, and the girls needed to achieve a minimum score in order to be eligible for a crown. Ashleigh was 2nd runner up with” Bop til you Drop” – her tap solo. Shelby was 1st runner up with “Via Dolorosa” – her lyrical solo.
Their lyrical duet, entitled “Angel Standing By,” earned them a special judges award called “Spectacular Sisters” and a second place finish overall. Shelby’s jazz solo, Dangerous, earned her a second place in her category of 13-15 Advanced Elite dancers.
Shelby was also invited to their National Dance Competition and to partake in USTD’s Contemporary Dance Company.
While keeping a very strict dance rehearsal schedule, both girls have maintained to be distinguished honors students at the Owego Apalachin Middle School, as well as being proud members of the concert and jazz bands.
