May 20 through 24 has been recognized by the Tioga County Legislature as Employee Recognition and Appreciation week. To coincide, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office held its annual awards ceremony where a total of 32 officers received awards on Tuesday afternoon. 

Awards ranged from cumulative years of service, to acts of service and the Stork Award (when Emergency 911 dispatcher Robert Ervay coached a husband through an emergency birth while EMS was on its way).

Steve Palinosky of the Tioga County recognition committee kicked off the awards with recognition of years of service within the Sheriff’s Office. 

Marte Sauerbrey, chair of the Tioga County legislature, thanked the crowd for the work they do for the community. “You keep us safe; you keep us in line; you protect us from harm; you get us out of the way if we’re getting in trouble,” she said. “From the office to corrections, all of the different parts are important.”

After, the Sheriff’s Office handed out their own Years of Service pins, resulting in 270 combined years of service being awarded. 

Eleven officers received the Unit Citation Award for assisting in the resolution of an armed robbery in October. Corrections Officer Kyri Jones was awarded the Croix De Negotiator Laurel for her “job knowledge and effective communication skills” in talking an inmate within the Tioga County Jail from harming himself. 

Another achievement recognized on Tuesday with the Medal of Exceptional Service awarded to Sgt William White and Deputy Ryan Bunce for their bravery and professionalism of diffusing a situation when a rifle was pointed in their direction and they were unable to use their service weapons. 

Other officers were awarded individual achievement awards for specific acts of service in keeping Tioga County safe. These acts include calls for service, vehicle and traffic arrests, and Penal Law arrests. 

Each officer was not only given a certificate and recognition, but also a lapel pin to wear on their uniforms. 

Receiving awards were the following: Deputy Ryan Bunce, Investigator John Cornwell, C.O. Cody Medovich, Civil Law Clerk Michele Tripicco, and E911 Dispatcher Christina Wilding received five-year service ribbons.

C.O. Cody Brunner, Sgt. Michael Gunning, and Investigator Tim Schmidt received a ten year service ribbon.

Sgt. William Allen, C.O. Michele Konecny, Sgt. Trevor Yaeger, and Investigator Julie Kipling received 20-year service ribbons. 

C.O. Roy Schreiner received a 25-year service ribbon; C.O. Greg Hall received a 30-year service ribbon; Sr. Investigator Wayne Moulton, Investigator Cliff Alexander, Investigator John Cornwell, Investigator Julie Kipling, Investigator Tim Schmidt, Sgt. Trevor Yaeger, Sgt. John Delmage, Deputy Josh Delmage, Deputy Paul Garlitz, Deputy David Schoonover, and Deputy Evan Tripicco received Unit Citations. 

Deputy Kaden Siang, Deputy Evan Tripicco, and Deputy Dylan Tiefenthaler received Achievement Medals.

Sgt. William White and Deputy Ryan Bunce were awarded the Medal of Exceptional Service. 

Deputy Paul Garlitz, Deputy Alan Bobier, Deputy Larry Alger, and Deputy Ryan Longo were awarded the Gallantry Star. 

Deputy David Schoonover and Deputy Larry Alger were awarded the Drug Buster. 

Deputy Josh Delmage received the Sheriff’s Commendation. 

Deputy Kaden Siang Croix and C.O. Kyri Jones were presented the Croix de Negotiator Laurel.

E911 Dispatcher Robert Ervay received the Stork Award, and Deputy Ryan Longo received the Samaritan Award.
