Lindridge to talk shop at next historic talk

The Candor Historical Society’s guest speaker on May 29 will be Steven Lindridge. Lindridge has been a Technical Education Teacher at Candor High School for the past 26-27 years. Of his many awards and recognitions, Lindridge was named New York State Technology Education and Engineering Association Teacher of the Year in 2015, the Technology and Engineering Teacher Excellence Award in 2016, and the Masonic General Douglas A. MacArthur Youth Award in 2017.

“Shop” classes are not like they used to be,” Lindridge exclaimed, adding, “They are now called technology classes because of the materials and machines that are used in the classroom.”

To keep up to date with today technology, Lindridge has been instrumental in working with local companies to secure donations of plasma cutters, CNC milling machines, 3-D printers, as well as a treasure-trove of accessories, and even scrap materials for use in his class. His understanding of the workplace environment and the use of these tools as a teaching opportunity have prepared many students in Candor for life after school. He has been credited with going above and beyond in instilling core values in today’s young people.

One of Lindridge’s mottos is stenciled on his classroom wall, “Have successful failures.” He believes that for “students to succeed, they need to have permission to make mistakes and fail”, and the technology shop is a perfect place for that.

Come learn about Candor High School’s technology classes, taught by an award-winning teacher, on May 29, where he will give a tour of the shop, and show off what the students are doing. Some of the special equipment may be demonstrated, as well.

The ‘Show and Tell’ event will take place at 7 p.m. in the Technology Room at the High School. Please enter from the back of the building by the stadium field.

This meeting is free and open to the public. For more information about this and other Candor Historical Society events, contact President Milton Dougherty at (607) 659-7357; Milton.dougherty@gmail.com; or online at www.candorhistoricalsociety.weebly.com.
