Town of Owego unable to accept yard waste

In a press release received on Thursday, the Town of Owego announced they are unable to accept any type of yard waste including brush, tree limbs, and leaves, for dumping in their gravel pit. They also noted that the gravel pit is closed to the public, effective immediately.

They apologize for any inconvenience this might cause. If you have any questions, you can contact the Town Supervisor’s Office by calling (607) 687-0123.

  1. So no yard waste pickup. Ok, I can pay Taylor Garbage for the leaves and grass clippings but they informed me that they do not take branches, brush from hedge trimming. So what am I supposed to do with all this that is piled in my yard? Landscape/yard service businesses that I have called want anywhere from $100 to $200 dollars. I have a leased small car through my employer and can’t lug everything to the landfill myself. I am sorry but with the taxes I pay, it’s disappointing that the town can’t offer only one or two days to pick up. Not weeks or months, just have only one or two pickups and you either get your stuff done and out by then or you’re stuck with it. Very disappointing to live in a nice neighborhood and pay a great amount of taxes and have this service stopped. Someone in my neighborhood offered me to take all of it and dump it down the embankment by the creek from their house (not their property). 1. I would never do such an awful thing, and 2, I have no means to transport it anyway. I fear ofhers will find these kind of ways to dump this stuff and the community is going to end up looking like trash, not to mention possible damage to the land/creeks and rivers surrounding. I know there is not even the slightest chance that the service will be reinstated, but at least you provided this comment section for me to have a voice and I thank you for that. Respectfully, Lisa
