The Newark Valley Historical Society (NVHS) invites the public to the third annual Collections Open House on Saturday, April 6, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Rollie Noble Room of the Newark Valley Municipal Building, located on Park Street in Newark Valley.

The event offers attendees a peek in a few boxes of the society’s collections that have been kept in storage for many years. On view will be some of the beautiful costumes and fashion accessories, quilts, coverlets and memorabilia from local businesses. A special focus this year will be on linen textiles and the tools used for the processing of flax into linen cloth. A member of NVHS fiber guild, Shuttles and Spindles, will be on hand to discuss the use of flax and a few related tools.

The collections committee welcomes the opportunity to chat with everyone about the objects selected for this year’s Open House and the general care of the Society’s collections. Work continues on updating the records and improving storage conditions. For those willing to venture upstairs, members will be happy to show the new storage and work area.

The Open House is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcome.
