Readers’ Column for the week of March 24, 2019

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

Happy 37th Birthday Steven – Love, your dad. Just wanted to say one more thing, I am very proud of you, as I know your mother is too. Thank you for being a good son.

~

The news media will not tell you this, but last February reached a 45-year all time high for jobs created.

~

I would just like to compliment and make a couple comments about our beloved Owego Fire Department for escorting the Owego Indians boys basketball Section 4 Champions after winning in Binghamton a week ago Saturday. Tremendous they could make a call from the arena and in a few short minutes there were about 20 emergency vehicles and sirens and firemen out to escort those boys through the village over to the OFA campus. Just a great outpouring of people and I know those boys will remember that for a lifetime as well as their parents will. It was just a wonderful small town event. Thank you so much Owego Fire Department and thank you Owego Free Academy Boys Basketball Section 4 Champions and 2018-19 STAC Champions.

I would like to thank the person in Berkshire for plowing the sidewalks. This makes it very easy to walk to the library and church, etc. I hope the town is paying you because the town court voted to buy a plow. What is the status of the town plow for cleaning the sidewalks?

~

How is it some Pennysaver comments go on and on for half a page but my 20 word comments don’t make it into print? Last week I called in three politically correct one-liners and none were printed. What gives?

~

I was so glad after April the giraffe gave birth because I was getting sick and tired of all the publicity the pregnancy was getting. Now I put the news on today and there she is, going to have another giraffe. Can someone explain what the big deal is? A giraffe is a giraffe; get over it. It’s not news if you ask me.

~

The best thing for me to do during the Lenten season is to fast from the negativity and the political opinions.

~

If you don’t think the devil exists, just listen to the six o’clock news.

~

I know we would have less crime in this country if we had more people going to church.

~

What a sad country it is when people resort to drugs and alcohol, especially in a bad way.

~

I wonder if Mick Jagger rolls his loose pennies and takes them to the bank.

~

I wonder when the Berkshire clean up days are being held? I hope this year they’ll give us a few weeks notice and advertise it in the local papers, including the Pennysaver.

~

I was wondering if we could expand the local column and reduce the number of political viewpoints. As long as they are intelligent entries that would be nice to see more from the community.

~

Just wondering why The Pennysaver doesn’t print all the comments they get. Are you censoring them? Print them all.

~

Did you know that the Owego Town Supervisor held a last minute board meeting last week to the exclusion of two of the five members? The three board members that showed up voted to approve Mega Energy for our electric supply, town wide. Get ready for a higher electric bill, I bet you didn’t know.

~

It looks like all you need to do to start a construction boom in the village of Owego is to lose your building code enforcement officer. I have seen this much building construction going on in a long time as I have in the past one or two weeks. I guess if you don’t need a code you can just go ahead and do what you want.

I was wondering if there was a dealer in the valley that sells and installs the chairlifts in homes, and if they would put their number in The Pennysaver and roughly how much they cost.

National Political Viewpoints

So they now want to give undocumented immigrants driver’s licenses? Send undocumented immigrants back to where they came from! Build the wall; we’re under an invasion! What happened to things we used to call laws? Next they’ll take all laws and disregard them. Can I disregard laws too? What’s happening to our country! Vote all Democrats out.

~

The Mueller report will probably be out by mid-April, then the Marxist Democrat losers will have something else to cry about. President Trump will be vindicated. There was no Russian collusion as anyone with a brain can determine. Schiff will go on examining Trump’s every move for the last 70 years and Nancy Pelosi will sensibly squash any serious impeachment nonsense. Trump will win in a landslide in 2020 against the Democrat dwarfs who act like spoiled brats.

Look out to everyone who believes in clean air, clean water and who believes in climate change. Andrew Wheeler, another jerk who got hired as the EPA chief, will deregulate. I worry about our children, grandchildren and the planet. Doesn’t anyone give a damn? And Trump calls other people rats?

~

Congratulations Trumpsters! Your boy Donald will certainly make the Guinness Book of Records for the most misleading statements and outright lies of any president in U.S. history. With two years yet to go he is at 9,000 and counting. Good job!

~

They say you can tell a lot about the character of an individual by their actions. Ilhan Omar, a new house representative, has spoken out offensively in her committee appointment for which she apologized. She also has given her radical views on social media, no apologies. It appears that she is a radical Muslim and needs re-education camp.

~

It’s going to be an interesting watch to see if Nancy Pelosi can keep her democratic representatives in tow, deal with Ilhan Omar, a radical Muslim, and the 26 year old Alexandria know it all Cortez. Tranquilizers anybody?

~

Melania Trump is in the headlines again this past week to teach children to be their best. Is she for real? Children will be best learning from their own decent parents and adults and certainly not from her husband, that’s for sure. She should spend time teaching her husband about being best, decent and honest. A president should be someone children and people can look up to and learn from.

~

So, Mr. Kennedy said if the man is breathing he’s lying. So that means, you and I both know, he’s talking about Trump. How about that?

~

I’m wondering if other people are wondering, like me, who castrated all these Republican congressmen and senators because something sure happened to them because they sure lost it all.

~

A Texas multimillionaire is personally financing Ocasio Cortez. She just loves her new $5,000 suits while she mouths platitudes about helping the poor. This twit moved into a much more expensive Washington office than the one she criticized the one her predecessor had. She is a first class hypocrite, which is typical of Socialist rulers like Colonel Sanders who supports tyrants like those in Venezuela.

The Federal IRS SALT deduction, which up until this year when it was capped at $10,000, has been a way for high-tax states, as is New York, to pass the impact of the states high taxes back to the federal government. In high taxing states, state and local taxes are less painful to those 34 percent federal taxpayers who qualify to itemize deductions. Of that group of taxpayers less than 10 percent as a whole are affected by the imposed $10,000 cap recently applied to the Sch. C property tax line item. In application as it has been allowed to do in high taxing states, as is New York, the taxpayer remits less into the Federal Treasure wherein the Treasury needs to make up that lost tax revenue by imposing a general higher tax rate to all states. The result is taxpayers in those 45 states, which tax their residents responsibly at the state level, end up paying for the allowed SALT deduction through their federal income taxes. What has changed; by capping SALT at $10,000, taxpayers in high-tax states, again as is New York, are being exposed to the full cost of their states’ income tax policies. The five highest taxing Blue-state governors, again as in New York, are trying to redirect your anger towards a federal government that has finally stopped subsidizing blue-state over-taxing policies and have provided a lowered federal tax rate and a higher exemption rate to all taxpayers in all the 50 states. New York’s current projected budget is running a 2.5 billion deficit. Will Governor Cuomo present a fiscally sound budget that addresses his over budgeted expenditure line items to balance with tax revenue or will he continue to give tax credit waivers to billionaire tech and movie industries, build more movies studios and light bulb plants, pretend to be a savvy investment broker and fund and continue to fund companies which fail and defraud, buy votes in Upstate New York with “pork” grants or even something more stupid as to legalize pot so he can tax it?

~

I understand that where there is fencing up on parts of the border wall, the U.S. is going to electrify the fence. That will keep the illegals from entering the U.S.

~

I believe President Trump is trying to be the devil or God.

~

Now watch your television closely while this R. Kelly is being brought in front of these women that are accusing him of all what he did. They’re all old enough to know what they are doing, but that’s not the deal. The deal is two of those women have the same wig on. Think about it, now you look closely. Watch your TV more closely now because, what was that fake news? It really is foolish fake put ons.

~

When Nancy Pelosi stated that Donald Trump was not worth impeachment, she not only insulted the President of the United States but she also did a disservice to the American people by implying that they are not worthy of anything better than sloppy seconds.

~

The economy is the envy of the world! Thank you Mr. Trump. I literally shiver and shake when I think what would our economy be had Hillary been elected.

~

Can anyone tell me what hold the Democratic Party has over the Republicans in congress that the Republicans don’t dare stand up and support their constituency.

~

Fox News just took the viper Jeanine Pirro show off the air for a while anyhow. She will have more time to visit her mother by way of Nichols, N.Y. again. She can go 125 mph instead of the 119 mph she does. So look out everybody, here she comes and maybe she’ll have Trump with her in the back seat.

~

I understand that Robert Mueller is not going to put out his report until Bill and Hillary Clinton tell him to do so. The Clinton’s always and still do run the Washington political show.

~

The list of Democratic presidential hopefuls is laughable. The only hope they had in winning was Michael Bloomberg, and he said he’s not running as he said Trump cannot be defeated.

~

So Biden let it slip in a speech in front of a lot of people that he may run in 2020. Now he cannot keep a secret so why would I want him as my president trusted with confidential information? I think not.
