Spring Tai Chi classes in Candor

Candor tai chi spring classes begin the first week of March with Wednesday sessions, adding Tuesday and Thursday sessions in May. Tai chi is a low-impact exercise perfect for people of all ages, and Sue Heavenrich and Terrie Crance have developed their classes with wellness in mind. In addition to improving balance and reducing falls, recent research shows that tai chi also benefits patients with breast cancer.

Wednesday Tai Chi classes begin March 6 with a six-week class that includes Qi Gong, Yang style 24 forms, and yoga stretches. New and continuing students are welcomed to this class, which meets from 2 to 3 p.m. To register, contact Sue at (607) 659-3022 or email sueheaven@gmail.com.

Tai Chi for Sissies begins Tuesday, May 7 and is the perfect class for beginners who want to relax and have fun. The easy-to-follow movements put minimal stress on muscles and joints, making this an ideal class for seniors and people suffering from arthritis. Tai Chi for Sissies meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m. for eight weeks. To register, contact Terrie at (607) 624-3780 or email gammit@localnet.com.

Over the past year, Sue and Terrie have been developing a set of tai chi moves that would be fun for everyone in the Candor community. They’ll be teaching these in their new Candor Wellness Tai Chi class, along with Qi Gong and yoga stretches. This class is open to anyone and is a good next step for students who have completed Tai Chi for Arthritis or Tai Chi for Sissies. Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday from 2 to 3 p.m. for eight weeks. To register, call (607) 624-3780 or email gammit@localnet.com.

All tai chi classes are held at the Candor Emergency Squad building, 58 Main St. in Candor. Fees are on a “what you can pay” basis, from $1 to $3 per class meeting. Instructors are members of the Tai Chi for Health Community.
