Finns to host Genealogy event

On Feb. 17, at 1 p.m. at the Newfield Fire Hall and after a potluck lunch, Finger Lakes Finns will present a lecture by Rainer Langstedt on “Finding Your Finnish Roots on the Internet.”

By using genealogy websites and online Finnish government archives he will demonstrate how to search almost 500 years of back records. Because the best websites are in Finnish and Swedish, Langstedt will include Finnish and Swedish translations of words such as born, died, married, children, son, daughter, father, mother etc.

Langstedt will also discuss history and explain why things were recorded in a certain way.

Members of the public are welcome share in delicious food, excellent desserts, great company and the chance to learn about genealogy and Finger Lakes Finns.
