On Feb. 11, from noon to 2 p.m., the Phelps Mansion Museum will feature the history of W. C. Handy during their luncheon and program event at the museum.

W. C. Handy is a larger than life figure in American music history. For more than 100 years he has been revered internationally as The Father of the Blues, but his story has never been told in documentary form – until now.

Mr. Handy’s Blues is an against all odds heart wrenching tale of family conflict, racial tensions and redemption. Born the son of a preacher in post Civil War Alabama, Handy rose to fame as one of the most beloved and prolific composers of the 20th Century.

Joanne Fish, producer, director, and owner of Labor of Love Productions will show a ten-minute film on Mr. Handy and talk about his struggles and triumphs to become a world-renowned composer.

The cost is $20 for the program and lunch, or $5 for the program only. The meal is meatloaf oven roasted potatoes, squash, and a cupcake. Reserve your seat by Feb. 8 by calling (607) 722-4873.

The Phelps Mansion Museum is located at 191 Court St., Binghamton, N.Y. Visit phelpsmansion.org to learn more.
