School threat heightens security on Friday; police investigate incident at OFAThis photo was circulated on Facebook on Friday, and depicts a statement written in a bathroom stall at the high school in Owego.

On Jan. 3, the Owego Apalachin School Resource Officer was alerted to a threatening message that was written on a wall located in the school. 

Members of the Owego Police Department, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office, and the New York State Police immediately opened an investigation.

An increased Law Enforcement presence was established at the school as a precaution.

On Jan. 4, the subject responsible for the message was located and interviewed, according to police.

In a press release received from the Owego Police Department, they stated, “It was determined that the threat was non-credible, and at no time were the students or faculty in any danger.”

In a statement from Superintendent Corey Green, he noted that security was heightened for “precautionary reasons.”

The investigation is on going.
