Nov. 17 was national Family Volunteer Day and the Board of Directors of the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation surprised dozens of residents at Riverview Manor with freshly cut flowers in vases to brighten up their living spaces and spirits.

Volunteers used donated vases and purchased bundles of cut flowers and brought them to the Riverview facility. Working with the activity coordinator and with several of the residents supervising, beautiful flower displays were put together and distributed.

Residents picked their own vase and flowers and interacted with volunteers about their lives and personal history in the Owego area.

National Family Volunteer Day is celebrated every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving and gives family members of all ages the opportunity to join in community service together.
