TCRM receives ‘Good Neighbor Award’

Community Bank, with branches across Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania and Massachusetts celebrated National Good Neighbor Day this year on Sept. 28 by engaging in neighborly activities and donating to community causes. In total, Community Bank donated $55,250 to local non-profits throughout its four-state footprint, with 32 branches across New England contributing $8,000 to local nonprofits of their choice.

Tioga County Rural Ministry is proud to receive Community Bank’s Good Neighbor award. Owego Branch Manager, Elizabeth Morse, cited Rural Ministry as a “worthy organization because of all the good you do in our community.  When I attended your Merchant’s Open House, I was amazed at all the good works your organization does for the community.”

Good Neighbor Day was created in 1971 by Becky Mattson of Lakeside, Montana, and proclaimed a national day by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 to raise public awareness that good neighbors help achieve human understanding and build strong, thriving communities. It is celebrated annually on Sept. 28 as a day of gratitude and community building.
