On Nov. 16, 2018 at approximately 4:37 a.m., a fire was reported at 1774 Ridge Road in the town of Barton. Troopers from New York State Police at Owego were called to respond to a fire just after 8 a.m., after a 71-year-old resident could not be located.
At approximately 12:41 p.m., the resident of the home, the resident was located deceased in the residence. Troopers are assisting the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team
The cause and the origin of the fire has not officially been determined and is still under investigation. At this time, the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

Other agencies that responded include the Tioga County Fire Investigation Team, Halsey Valley Fire Department, Lockwood Fire Department, Tioga Center Fire Department, Spencer Fire Department, Greater Valley EMS and the Barton Highway Department.
