Sayre Sportsmen’s Club to hold Open Range Weekend

The Sayre Sportsmen’s Club will be holding a free Open Range Weekend for hunters in the area preparing for the upcoming deer rifle season.

On Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 17-18, the rifle range will be free and open to non-members to sight-in their rifles prior to the Nov. 26 opening day of Pennsylvania’s deer season. Members are always welcome to use the range. The club is located just off Sportsmen’s Road in Litchfield.

Club members will be on hand both days, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to police the range and answer questions about the club. The club’s rifle range facilities include a 100- and 200-yard range with backer boards for paper targets and steel targets. 

The clubhouse will also be open both days with free refreshments and club memberships will be available for purchase. The annual membership fee of $50 includes use of the ranges and the club grounds. It is a family membership and includes husbands, wives and children under 18 years of age. Memberships are also available for purchase at Athens Agway or Patton’s Country Store in East Athens.

The Sayre Sportsmen’s Club is a private club with controlled access. The clubhouse is open Sundays from 9 a.m. to noon, and Wednesday’s from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 4 to 8 p.m. Monthly membership meetings are held on the last Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. and all members are invited to attend.

Membership in the club includes use of all the facilities. In addition to the rifle ranges, there is a trap range, two skeet ranges, an indoor .22LR/archery range and four pistol pits. The grounds host multiple campsites with walking/nature trails and a pond with a pavilion. All of the ranges are equipped with charcoal grills and picnic tables.

Members are reminded that the rifle range will be closed on Opening Day of Pennsylvania’s deer rifle season (Nov. 26) and on the two Saturdays during the deer rifle season (Dec. 1 and Dec. 8)
