Pay attention on election day

Dear Editor,

If you or family members are receiving Social Security or Medicare benefits that you earned, you need to pay special attention on Election Day and what Congress is aiming to do.

The tax cut law passed in 2017 has increased federal budget deficits by 17 percent to nearly $800 billion. This tax cut primarily benefited the .01 percent and multinational corporations. The tax cuts for corporations are permanent, but tax cuts for individuals will expire in 2025.

Congressional leaders McConnell and Ryan recently expressed alarm at the soaring budget deficit and they have a plan. Their plan is to cut Social Security and Medicare to fix the budget deficit caused by massive tax cuts and a bloated budget that the Republican controlled Congress, including Congressman Tom Reed, voted for.

On Election Day, Nov. 6, you have a choice to vote for a congressional representative who votes to benefit multinational corporations and the wealthiest individuals in the country, or one that will listen to and work for the average resident in our district.

Tracy Mitrano is the candidate who will listen to district residents and not be beholden to the outside donors that have funded Tom Reed’s campaign. Seventy-five percent of Reed’s campaign donations come from outside the district while 75 percent of Mitrano’s campaign funding came from over 10,000 residents inside the district.

I urge you to vote for Tracy Mitrano for Congress. She will listen to you and not dark money outside interests.

Sincerely,

Kevin Millar

Owego, N.Y.
