Flooding is evident at the Gridleyville Bridge towards Spencer Road in Candor in this photo taken by Carol A. Henry on Tuesday.

The area was hit again with the remnants of Florence, a hurricane turned tropical depression that inundated the Carolinas last week.

As Florence sat inland in the Carolinas, the Southern Tier experienced heavy rain that arrived, and flash flooding that swiftly followed, prompting a State of Emergency on Tuesday morning in Tioga County, N.Y. Area schools were subsequently closed for the day and the State of Emergency was lifted that evening.

Hickories Park was also closed last week. At the time of this reporting, the park has reopened, but the back section where the dog park is located remains closed until further notice.

The Red Cross also reported that 38 American Red Cross volunteers from the Western and Central New York Region joined in the response efforts.

Locally, Chuck Haupt, of Owego, N.Y. is currently volunteering to assist with Distribution.
