Flash flooding continues in the Southern Tier as heavy rains once again pounded the area over the last 24-hours. Hard hit at approximately 8 a.m. on Saturday was the Village of Newark Valley.

According to accounts from residents in the area, the water started flowing through the village. Other reports state that the water flow pattern change is most likely due to debris that backed up in a local creek.

And the ongoing flood recovery continues for those that fell victim to the raging waters throughout the week.

To assist, on Aug. 19 and 20 the American Red Cross will be distributing free clean-up kits and other flood relief supplies at the Big Flats Fire Department, located at 505 Maple St. On Saturday, the Red Cross distributed cleaning supplies in Kirkwood.

Volunteers will be onsite from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday.

Disaster health and mental health services, food, and recovery information will be available, along with recovery information and additional support for families affected by this week’s floods.
