Martha “Marte” Sauerbrey announced her candidacy for reelection to the Tioga County Legislature last week. Sauerbrey has served on the Legislature since 2006. She was elected Chair of the Legislature in 2014 and has served since that time. Legislative District #2 includes the Village of Owego and outside areas.

In a press release, Sauerbrey stated that when she ran for the first time, her goals were to make responsible decisions, keep taxes low and to focus on and promote Economic Development.

She noted some accomplishments during her tenure, to include county property taxes, which have dropped to two percent and below. She also noted that the Economic Development and Planning Department has been highly successful in attracting business to Tioga County due to the excellent staff that has been developed over the years and the overall cooperation of communities.

Sauerbrey has also placed her energies in developing leadership within the county through programs such as the Institute for Advancement, County Leaders Meetings, and Tioga Women Lead.

Most recently, she worked to refortify veteran services, benefiting over 4,000 veterans in Tioga County. She has worked to broaden Tioga County’s relationship outside of the county as a member of the Southern Tier Economic Development Council and she is a Board Member of the New York State Association of Counties.

“Public Service is important and I feel the responsibility to serve my constituents in the best way possible by making good decisions and working cooperatively with my fellow legislators and county employees to provide the best services possible for our citizens,” stated Sauerbrey.

The primary election in Tioga County, N.Y. is Sept. 13, with the General Election on Nov. 6. Sauerbrey is running unopposed, and therefore will be on the ballot for the General Election.
