Attention all residents of the Village of Newark Valley. At the last board meeting the Mayor proposed that all homeowners will be billed for garbage pickup and it will be billed on our village taxes, whether we want this service or not! He did state that the cost would go down for all, which would be the cost spread out by all residents until it is time to buy a new garbage truck (the truck now is a 1989 and 29 years old). Then look out! I do not believe that a local government should dictate how we choose or whom we choose to get rid of our garbage. They also restrict what we can put out. They also bill us for two cans, but a lot of homeowners only put out one can and you are being billed for two. I get billed for one can and that is less than what the village charges with no restrictions on what I put out. I would suggest you voice your concerns to the Mayor (642-8686) or the Village Board. At the past meeting we were informed that it would cost the taxpayers of the village another $50,000 to cover the Ladder Factory foundation with concrete that is on top of the cost to tear it down, do they not pay attention to detail! Remember your tax bill last January, do you really believe it will go down this year. Again voice your concern; it’s your money.

So refreshing to see such bravery and courage of the divers who rescued the boys trapped in the cave. Hats off to all the drivers that made this horrific rescue and remembering the diver who lost his life trying. There’s a special place in heaven for all of you. God bless you.

~

In regards to the dog with hot spots: these are caused by a bacterial infection. Use any commercially available triple antibiotic cream.

~

Regarding the dog with hot spots, my mom was a public health care nurse and I remember her suggesting to a friend who had a dog with the same problem that lard might help.

~

Last week there was a comment about a house on Church Street in Candor. Well I think you should just look into your own yard instead of commenting on someone else’s house. I swear people just have to put their noses into other people’s business; so here is what you do, “If you don’t have something nice to say, then don’t say anything at all.” That way there won’t be any trouble from anyone.

~

Here it is a Saturday night after the 4th of July, the humidity has finally moved out. Our windows are open, here we are on Erie Street again with the smoke coming in our windows and we have to close everything up. This isn’t the usual person who does the fire – this is another one! It’s ridiculous we can’t have a window open at night to enjoy our summer because these inconsiderate so called Christian people have to burn their fires. Isn’t that sad?

~

Please mow the grass on Route 38. It’s getting kind of high.

~

We’ve tried everything for our dog’s hot spots. The vet, fancy foods, etc.; what worked was Pure Balance wet and dry food from Walmart. It takes a while, but it works.

~

I got very tired of telemarketers also. If you have Spectrum phones all you have to do is call up to their office, they will block your robo calls or any other numbers you want blocked. It’s very simple and easy to do. The phone will ring once, that’s all. I hope this solves a lot of people’s robo call problems.

~

I’m calling regarding the Maple Grove Cemetery in Candor. What’s going on there? The road going in and out of there is terrible. They aren’t mowing the lawn and why can’t we have artificial flowers? I live out of town and only get there about once a month and there is no water there anymore, so it’s very hard to keep flowers. My parents are there and I’d like to honor them with flowers. I’d just like to know what’s going on.

On Saturday, July 28, Tioga County’s Annual Kids Picnic will be held at Marvin Park. It’s a free for children of all ages and will take place from noon to 4 p.m. There will be free food, free drinks, a bounce house, zoo mobile and some games. There will be a bicycle giveaway at 3 p.m. The event is sponsored by VFW Post 1371 and American Legion Post 401.

In the Village of Owego there is a local ordinance that says the police chief must live within five miles of the village hall. We just hired a people chief that doesn’t even live in the same county. We also just hired a code enforcement officer who lives outside of the village by 10 miles. Some things never change. When are we going to start hiring within and start obeying the rules?

Just wondering why more families in Berkshire and Richford don’t take advantage of the summer recreation program at Newark Valley School. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to interact with other children and counselors, go on field trips, swimming, bowling, etc. There is a free breakfast provided each day. This year funding was provided so the bus could pick up and return students to Berkshire and Richford twice a week, and only two or three students are taking advantage of that at each location. I realize there was a charge of $30 per child or $70 for a family of three or more, but there was also funding available for those who could not afford to do that. Those not attending are missing out on doing fun things for one month of their summer vacation from school. A special thanks to Heidi and her helpers for making this possible for those who do attend and enjoy being there.

~

I’m so thankful for the divers who got everyone out of the cave in Thailand. Who says that miracles don’t happen today?

~

Shame on the Owego School Board for denying veterans their exemptions they earned. Apparently veterans are no longer important.

~

To the person who called asking for a natural remedy for their dog’s hot spots, we use a tablespoon of coconut oil in our dog’s food and it has helped them tremendously. I hope you have luck with it.

~

I’ve been wondering why we haven’t seen anything in the local papers or with the material that was sent to different houses, people and occupants, on the Owego Apalachin New York State Lottery and the Nichols Casino. I’ve been wondering what the amount was, and if it might just help us on our school taxes. Maybe I missed it. Did I?

To the members of the Tioga County Democratic Party, I am deeply ashamed that our leadership failed to support Max Della Pia in his run for office. We finally had a qualified candidate in this county to stand up for something we all believe in and there was no push, no mailing, and no support from the Tioga County Democratic Leadership. We need a new leader and we need it now! The Tioga County staff has run unopposed for years, town supervisor unopposed for years, the district attorney ran unopposed in the last election. This is ridiculous and it needs to stop; and as a Tioga County Democrat I’m deeply embarrassed. Our party failed to provide qualified candidates for these jobs, better funded by taxpayer dollars. Max Della Pia should have won. He should have been able to make up for the votes he lost by right here in this county alone if our county had some pride and leadership. I truly hope that the party can change leadership soon.

~

I wish another beautician or barber would buy the Country Lady Beauty Shop in Candor because right now it is for sale and right now there is no other beauty shop in town and we need one. That little shop served our community for over 40 years and is greatly missed.

~

Isn’t it great that The Owego Apalachin School Board of Education have taken a knee in regards to Veterans Tax Exemption in a closed session? This tells me that either they have not served their country, or have any of their relatives, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters or that they even show respect for anyone that graduated from Owego Apalachin schools that decided to serve this country. Great Corporations like Lowe’s and Burger King offer Veterans a 10 percent discount every day off your purchase. Other companies like Home Depot and Olums will offer a 10 percent discount for Veterans on certain days and purchases, all of which comes directly off profits. The OASBoE took a knee and decided that the Veterans living in the school district do not deserve thanks and acknowledgment for their service to this country. A small exemption to veterans would not have cost the school board or the school district one cent as exemptions are figured prior to the tax levy. I hope that other veterans let their voice be heard. I served in Viet Nam and was told to take off my uniform as I travel home because the people had no respect for what I had done for our country, and this is what I feel about the OASBoE, I get no respect. It is sad that we have elected such individuals to represent us. I am a veteran and I vote.

National Political Viewpoints

A very sincere thanks to all the democrats that write in. Your constant crying, moaning, whimpering, the sky is falling we’re doomed mass hysteria regarding the president and republicans always puts a smile on my face every Monday. Plus it makes me realize things could be worse, I could be you.

~

The president wants you to believe Mexico will be paying for the wall, but whom do you think is really going to pay for it? Us taxpayers.

~

Should Donald Trump be impeached it will be for money laundering, obstruction of justice, and don’t forget the BIG ONE – COLLUSION! Whether or not you like the president has nothing to do with it.

~

People are so enamored by Socialism, yet they have no idea what it is and are being taught in school and college of its wonders. Let me give you an example: Spelling test, YOUR daughter studies like crazy, gets all the words correct, gets 100 percent. Neighbor’s boy doesn’t study, instead, plays video games. Gets half of the words correct on the same spelling test, gets 50 percent. Socialism, your daughter doesn’t get 100 percent, neighbor’s son doesn’t get 50 percent. Instead, both get 75 percent, total of the two scores is 150, divide by two, gets you 75 percent each. Sound fair? Who is going to be happy, your daughter, or their son? What lessons are taught to both in this example? Socialism has NEVER worked, anywhere, EVER!

~

You have got to laugh. The current fit being thrown by the Libs over President Trump’s choice for Supreme Court Judge is a perfect example of the old adage, “Don’t bother me with the facts, my mind is made up!” Absolutely ludicrous! Shows just how out of touch they continue to be.

~

The message on Melania’s jacket saying, “I don’t care, do you,” was referring to Mr. Trump, not the media as he would like you to believe. Melania wanted to show support for the children her husband tore from their parents.

~

So Maxine Waters has told people to get in republican faces and push back and tell them they are not wanted in public places. Well they showed a news guy who went to her office and was outside and put a mic in front of her face and asked her to respond on what she said and she pushed the mic back and said make an appointment. They will shoot down every thing good President Trump is doing and Schumer told the cabinets not to approve whom ever Trump names as the replacement for the Judge who is retiring. Boy, we gave Obama a chance and none of this negativity was thrown at him. The dems also what to keep Obamacare, and what a joke that was. Trump has helped the Veterans and blacks and Hispanic, and women’s unemployment is at its lowest. Please, let’s all work as one united country and you’ll have your chance in four years to vote. Stop the bickering and protests. Movie stars go back to entertaining us and stay out of politics.

~

Anyone would think abortion is the ONLY issue on the line when considering a new justice to the Supreme Court, trust me, for the majority of voters, taxpayers, thinkers, it’s not! To the party in last week’s column who favored Planned Parenthood, selling baby parts – doesn’t bother you? We don’t believe in abortion as a birth control device and don’t want any money from us going to that end

~

It’s raining in Joe Trump Fan’s backyard, but I bet that if CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, the New York Times, and the Washington Post all told Joe Trump Fan it was raining in his backyard and Fox told him it wasn’t, he’d not only believe Fox but wouldn’t even bother to look out a window to actually see for himself.

~

Donald Trump supporters praise the president for the economy and the stock market. Beware of the trade wars and the interest rates are on the rise. Jobs will be lost and Harley Davidson is moving outside the country now. We’re heading for disaster.

~

My friends, I would like to speak about the sense of outrage that came against Attorney General Jeff Sessions for referring to Romans 13:1 while addressing the issue of obeying the laws of our nation. The Apostle Paul wrote, “Obey the government, for God is the one who has put it there. There is no government anywhere that God has not placed in power.” Romans 13:1 TLB In our culture today, we are choosing to believe we are in control. We find it difficult to understand that there is a sovereign God who places leaders in government for His purposes. He is the ultimate authority. Out of His great loving kindness and mercy, He has made it possible to know Him through His Son, Jesus Christ and through His Word, the Bible. It is amazing to see all that He has foretold unfolding before our eyes. If you really want to know the truth – “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you,” James 4:8 TLB. For further study on the subject of God, government and our responsibility, please read Romans 13:1-14.

Facebook does good, but it also does harm. They have those who don’t report the true facts. For the Dems and others, an ant could be crossing the road, and by the time they get through it’s turned into a lion.

~

I think I have it figured out. Donald Trump is so convinced of his ability to badger you into submission, that’s how he gets his own way. Coming from a family of abuse and bullying, that’s exactly what is going on with him. He just badgers people until he gets his own way because he is nothing but a bully and a coward.

~

After all we’ve been hearing this week from Mr. Trump’s mouth, do you really think he had some men in white coats following him for our safety? Think about it, his mouth is the biggest part of him, not quite. Have a great weekend and be safe!

~

Amy Barrett would be a great choice for Supreme Court Judge and she would make short work of the simpleton Democrat traitors who would oppose a saint who is not pro-abortion or not a bonafide left wing loon.

~

Ivanka Trump will be in Cortland County with Claudia Tenney this week. Shame on the both of them! Stay in Washington where you belong with the rest of the crooks.

~

No matter what you liberals say about Donald Trump, he is still a ten times better president than Obama ever was. Some of you liberals say you want to go back to Obama’s policies. What a joke! Double-digit inflation and joblessness, besides he’s apologizing to everybody for everything. What a woos. I will vote for Donald Trump again – no question. You whiners should shut up and support America now, not your ingratiating agenda. If your anti-patriotism destroys America, will you be happy? What then? Then for real you will have a reason to whine. Right now you live in the best country in the world. You are free, well nourished and spoiled, and you still complain. Shame on you! You should leave America if you don’t support its policies. We will be glad to see you go, so bye, bye.

~

Hey, check this out! We Trump supporters are starting a new movement called Me 3. To join this movement you have to do three things. One, you have to love America; two, you have to accept its rules and regulations; and three, do everything you can to make America great again. No crybabies or whiners allowed, only positive thinking patriots may join, all others may file to the airport and fly to another country and continue your quest for perfection. Good luck and hail the Me 3 movement!

~

The Democratic Party is no more. They are the know nothing party resurrected. Their insane arguments about the Robert Bork Supreme Court nomination are because Democrats want unfettered rights to abort as many fetuses as possible. They want the government to force you into unions and then force you to pay for political candidates you don’t support. They want you to relinquish your rights and return for government handouts. They want to force you into Obamacare. Conservatives need to join together and push through Cavanaugh’s nomination. Any Republicans who vote against Cavanaugh should be dumped in the coming elections.

~

My guess is that it was a misprint saying Obama was a man with class and never insulting. Are you kidding me? This man had open borders and put this country in extreme danger, there was high unemployment with way too many people on welfare, food stamps and other government hand outs. Obama ruined this country. He sure left President Trump a mess to clean up and what a great job President Trump is doing. I shake to think it could have been Hillary, more of the same. Thank goodness the United States voters were smarter than that!

~

Why is it New York has the worse politicians representing this state? We’ve got Cuomo, Gillabrand, Schumar, Crowley, and the list goes on. Oh, and let’s not forget Hillary, Bruno and Sheldon Silver. Is this a reflection of all the Democrats in the state? Unfortunately it is. I’m so glad to be a Republican.

~

Donald Trump is not a president of the United States; he is a patsy to Vladimir Putin.

~

I can’t believe the mouth on that thing we call the president. That is disgusting! He’s going to have the United States in big trouble before he ever gets out of there.

~

Protest, protest, protest, that’s all the Democrats know. It only demonstrates their political inability to deliver for the people. They have no agenda, no worthwhile message. All of them, hopefully, will be replaced by Republicans this November. It’s very sad to think people elect these so called politicians and get nothing in return for that vote. I’m sure they are in awe in what President Trump has been able to accomplish. You’ve got to go Republican if you want anything done.

“Render unto Caesar, the things that are Caesar’s,
render unto God, the things that are God’s.”
So why won’t 45 show us his tax returns?
