There has been a girls silver and purple bike parked at the turn around on Silk Street in Newark Valley for two weeks; if you don’t want it I can find it a new home.

All you folks, who seem to have a problem with the Amish moving in, need to get real. The Amish are a peaceful people. We know this, not because they tell us so, but because their lives show us that. They take over properties that have been let go and fix them up. They build new, attractive buildings, and take care of existing buildings. Their farming practices re-build the earth. The food they grow, and sell, is natural, organic and healthy. Their baked goods are delicious and made with real ingredients, not the chemicals we eat in store bought goods. They build and sell well-constructed, beautiful storage buildings, and furniture out of real wood. They pay taxes, but take no government assistance. They shop locally; they go to our local doctors and dentists. Pay attention when you drive and their buggies will be no problem. Just let them live their lives; they won’t interfere with you or cause you one bit of trouble.

~

To the person who knows how horses feel. I’m not sure you know this, but where the sun hits changes throughout the day. Maybe the horses were parked there when it was shady. The Amish doing something to injure or harm their horses is like parking your car on a railroad track. They depend on those horses and know how to take care of them. The Amish are exposed to farm animals their entire lives, they know how to properly care for them.

Candor Community Chorus: Fantastic, superb, wonderful, delightful, moving, emotional. Thank you.

I was wondering when they are going to do something with the intersection in Richford. Someday someone is going to get killed or hurt. Just about every time I go to Richford I see people go right through and never even slow down! What if they put in the three colored lights? Where are the cops when you need them?

I have made up a hypothetical school tax levy based on the assumption that in the year 2000 the tax was $1,000; and that for each year since the increase has been 1.5 percent over the previous year. Any math student will recognize this as a compound interest problem, but I do not know that formula so I had to do the multiplication for each year. I found that after 29 years the $1,000 tax had increased to $1,513, or 50 percent more.

I believe, with last week’s caller, that the school boards are taking a knee to us veterans. In 2016 Governor Cuomo signed a bill, S1724A5135; this bill allows a partial school tax exemption for military veterans. The exemption, however, is discretionary upon the school boards, and U.E. and Owego school boards will not allow this tax exemption for the military veterans. They decided to take a knee to us in my opinion. We veterans deserve a whole lot better. We had to face horrors you civilians never had to see and many of us will never recover.

Is there anyone in the Owego area that is a dog groomer who grooms for a reasonable price? Please answer through the Pennysaver. Thank you very much. — A concerned dog owner.

It bothers me when people eat a banana and they throw their peel on the sidewalk. Slipping on a banana peel in the movies is funny, but it’s not funny in real life. It’s not funny when someone slips on one and ends up getting hurt. The people who do that should think about it.

~

My dog has hot spots. If anyone knows how to relieve itching and sores from scratching other than veterinarian prescribed antihistamines and steroids, would love to hear from you in this column.

~

I would like to thank the Village of Owego Mayor for posting the audio video sessions of the Owego board meetings. I do have something that sort of confuses me. One of the board members last week, when discussing a difficult situation, did a quick adjournment and walked out and did not show on Saturday after asking for an adjournment. According to the video I watched this morning, he wasn’t there last night after asking for the adjournment. It just seems like the attendance from three or four board members is very sparse. I think they should be docked, pay-wise.

I saw on the news where children’s playgrounds are very dangerous for hot weather. All equipment temperature goes way up. We need to get tents over playgrounds to shade equipment!

I am a senior citizen who was looking to buy a car alone. I went to several places, and very frustrated ended at Scoville-Meno car dealership, Route 17C, Owego. I found comfort and caring; and being a very nervous person, I also found a salesman who calmed me down. I bought my car and was so happy with the finance man, the boss and the salesman. I highly recommend Scoville-Meno!

Mr. Castellucci, I think you better start stuffing for your buddy Tom Reed because he’s going to need it.

It’s Wednesday night, July 3 at about 9 p.m., and I just got back from a bike ride where I spilled and hit the curb and knocked myself over, fell on the ground. I’m just calling to say thank you to the young man about who rushed over and helped me up, got me up on my feet; and also to the other young couple in the car who stopped to make sure I was okay. It’s something like this you don’t find in the big cities. It’s another reason I like living in the little town of Owego, N.Y. People are the best!

Our beloved Senator, Fred Akshar, was on the front page of the July 4 Press & Sun Bulletin. The article stated that his girlfriend was working for Senator Libous and was making, at the time, $32,600. Then, Freddie Akshar became senator and this Jessica Williams received eight pay increases and her salary is now $85,000. Constituents are questioning Akshar, so he put her in another position so it won’t look bad for him. When he worked for the Binghamton Police Department he was also sneaky about looking out for other officers and friends, but not for you or me. He wasn’t interested in giving a regular individual a break. He was interested in giving as many violations as possible to his non-friends.

~

I’d like to say hats off to the girls at Dandy in Candor before and after the Fourth of July parade. They worked good to keep everyone moving in and out, not so much for all the chairs on Main Street once again. Once again, the home on Delray and Church Street needed some attention by homeowners for village pride. Overall, very nice day!

~

I have two things I’d like to say. First, telemarketers should not be allowed to call before 8 a.m. I am getting calls shortly after 7 a.m. Second, George Wall should do the Chicken BBQ for the Newark Valley Summerfest. Stay local! Last year my company and I were upset that he didn’t. We want George Wall’s chicken!

National Political Viewpoints

Donald Trump says Americans can sleep better at night after meeting with the dictator of North Korea. Now we find out he’s building more missiles and doesn’t plan on denuclearizing. Maybe our great president who said he could size someone up in 30 seconds because of his great instinct should take a few more minutes next time before giving away the store. UNBELIEVABLE!

~

Why does Donald Trump think the democrats are the enemy? Aren’t we on the same side and supposed to work together? Not everything is someone else’s fault. Work towards common ground, not away from issues. We’re supposed to be united.

~

Did you ever actually read what makes for grounds for impeachment of the President? Dislike isn’t one of them. Believe me, Conservatives would have impeached the previous occupant of the Oval Office about the time he said the second word of his inauguration speech, if dislike qualified as grounds. But, we didn’t. No constant silly, irrelevant protests, no carrying pre-printed signs, no destruction of other people’s property! Civility, decorum, self-control was the word of the day, for eight too long years!

~

I have a simple solution to the Libs constantly protesting something, anything. Love it or leave it! If you don’t like it here go to Cuba, Russia, wherever you choose, but stop trying to screw up what most of the country loves. By the way, you won’t have to run fast, nobody’s going to chase you. Don’t let the door hit you in the behind as you leave!

The pro-death statement that women have the right to kill the baby that grows inside of them in the name of control of their own bodies. What about the right of the baby to live? Let’s see an abortion performed. It could easily be shown on YouTube. After viewing such a procedure a better judgment could be rendered. Some 50 million babies have been killed in this country. How many of these babies could have grown up to be contributing to the betterment of life.

The jacket that Melania wore was in poor taste at the time for going to the border, but President Trump explained what it really meant and not what the media announced it to be. “I really don’t care, do you” was a jab at the media because of all the bad stuff they have thrown at her about her English, and they picked on her for wearing stilettos to go in the flooded areas. What the media left out was that before she got off the plane she put white sneakers on to walk around the flooded areas. They only tell you half the news. As far as the person in last week’s column who said Trump put the people in cages – they are wrong. The pictures they shown were put into place from Obama.

~

Those well-meaning folks who urge the repeal of Roe v Wade assume that no abortions were performed prior to that decision. In reality, due to the stigma of unwed motherhood and the lack of convenient birth control, I suspect even more abortions were done then. Every town and village had someone willing to perform the procedure, sometimes with tragic results. I personally know of two women who were unable to have children as a result of an early teen-age abortion. I am sure if the law is overturned such practitioners will appear, and with today’s Internet, self-abortion will become all too common. I do not understand the opposition to Planned Parenthood, an organization, which through its birth control programs has undoubtedly prevented many abortions. As in so many things in life, right-to-lifers should be very careful what they wish for.

And the hits just keep on coming, hitting with the tariffs, hitting our allies, and hitting the immigrants trying to come the America legally; and to top it off, hit the parents by ripping the children away from them. Mr. Trump just keeps the tunes coming.

~

Have you ever wondered? Some wing nut decides something needs to be protested and a bunch of liberals show up to fulfill the need. How is it that these “protesters” don’t have jobs they are working at? Is it possible that protesting is their job, which they are being paid to protest? If so, who is paying them and what’s the objective?

“Big Brown is the third Texas coal plant to retire in 2018. Despite President Trump’s promise to keep the coal industry in business, one coal plant has closed every 19 days since he took office.” Sierra. July/August 2018

Democrats – stop the hysteria and grow up! And most of all, put your brain in gear before you put your mouth in motion.

~

I see where Putin is going to meet with Trump. He’s probably going to tell him what he wants to do next. You’ve got Korea, he’s probably going to send him to China and see what he can do there.

~

All of this chaos at the border could be solved if Trump had kept his promise to the American people of getting Mexico to pay for every cent of the wall. What does he do? Goes down to Mexico and returns with nothing. So much for saying he is not a typical politician.

~

In today’s world, separation of children and parents happens all the time. We no longer live in the 50’s when families stay together and children had two parents who actually stayed together. Today you have single parent homes, incarcerated parents, and grandparents raising grandchildren. People need to wise up. All separated children are in that position due to their own parents. No difference at the border.

~

The Democrat Trump haters are apoplectic over losing the election and losing the support of hardworking Americans. They are now the useful idiot party of the extreme left. Democrat intellectuals like Maxine Waters want to confront and attack, mainly women who work for our great President Trump.

~

The nerve Jeannine Pirro had on Fox on Tuesday, complaining about Maxine Waters. At least Maxine Waters’ wasn’t driving 119 MPH in Nichols, N.Y. and could have killed someone or many people. She should be ashamed of herself. She has no shame and has such a viper mouth on Fox News.

~

The difference between Democrats and Republicans is quite apparent. Republicans are intelligent and Democrats are idiots. Get it? I doubt it.
