First Friday Celebrates Heroes

New flags, honoring veterans, are displayed in downtown Owego. Provided photo.

On Friday evening, downtown Owego kicked off a month long celebration of “Celebrating our Heroes” during their First Friday event. There, new flags that are prominently displayed throughout the village were in place, and several veteran organizations, to include the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team, the VFW Post 1371 and the Marine Corps League, were set up downtown to welcome guests attending the event.

At the beginning of the evening, representatives from the Wounded Warriors Amputee Softball Team visited the Tioga County Historical Society to donate a jersey to the director, Scott McDonald. The museum has an ongoing display this month that honors veterans. You can learn more at their website, www.tiogahistory.org

Various merchants in downtown Owego will also continue to honor veterans with special discounts throughout the month of July. To learn more, visit www.owego.org

Scott MacDonald, museum director, is presented a Jersey by Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team members Brent Nadjadi and Jeff Hackett.

We will have more on this event in next weekend’s print edition of The Owego Pennysaver Press.
