Candor’s Independence Day Celebration begins on Wednesday, July 4, with a 10 a.m. parade (theme is Summer Past Times). There is still time to enter a float, and everyone is welcome. The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 907 Candor is serving a chicken BBQ after the parade at the ball field. Call Diane Craig for tickets at 659-4724. There are carnival rides every day, a kiddie parade, and the Zoomobile on Thursday, fireworks on Friday at dusk and Tim Worden’s band After Dark, an open car show (free admission for all) with a pork chop BBQ and the band Bendher on Saturday. Workshop with Mercia Stocking entitled “Ribbon Embroidery Corsage” will take place at the Bement Billings Farmstead in Newark Valley. Learn steps in this wearable, historic needle art form, and create a corsage. The workshop will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All materials will be provided, and the cost is $25 for Newark Valley Historical Society members, and $30 for non-members.
