Charles LeCount, who was an active member of his church, purchased an organ and learned to play it at 84. One of his final wishes was to donate his organ to a church. Provided photo.

In the unfortunate passing of Charles LeCount, his family is discovering more about his final wishes. One of which is to find his Yamaha organ a home in a church.

As an active member in Lakeview Chapel, Charles LeCount taught Sunday school, vacation bible school and a church youth group in his earlier years. In the last three or four years of his life, LeCount hosted weekly bible studies in his own home.

As a young man, LeCount wanted to become a minister. When those plans got diverted, he found playing organ a spiritual experience as well.

In 2001, at the age of 84, LeCount bought the Yamaha organ brand new and took lessons in order to play it. Not particularly a musical man, he devoted the final years of his life to learning the instrument.

LeCount built his own home in Candor in the early 1940s and donated his working years to IBM. His family remembers him through his sense of humor and the stories he’d tell of his long life.

The family would like to fulfill Charles’ final wish and find a church for the organ to be used and appreciated. If interested in accepting the donation, contact Patty Lewis at (607) 972-8501.
