Bob Bassett recognizes Gabe O’Donnell, Ethan McFarland and Audra McFarland, who successfully completed a three-hour student leadership training at the Elks Lodge in May.

Close to two-dozen Owego youth received special recognition on June 10 during the annual Youth Recognition Dinner conducted by the Owego Elks Lodge.

Highlighting the dinner was a presentation by the student members of the Architecture Club of the Owego Apalachin Middle School, who did a multimedia display of their work creating an historic model of the Owego Methodist Church, which will be donated to the church.

Parents and Elks Club members all shared in the achievements and volunteer service of local young people through various school and community based activities. Elks officers honored local youth who participated in Elks sponsored programs such as the Hoop Shoot Competition.

Robert Bassett, president of the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, spoke about the importance of leadership and character development in young people at an early age and presented a recognition certificate to Gabe O’Donnell, Ethan McFarland and Audra McFarland, who successfully completed a three-hour student leadership training at the Elks Lodge in May.

Speaking on behalf on the youth being honored, Gabe O’Donnell shared his encouragement that all youth become more actively involved in the community.

Concluding the program was Owego Town Supervisor Don Castellucci, who spoke about the importance of youth volunteerism in all aspects of the community.

Special thanks were given to the youth and adult Elk volunteers who prepared and served the meal and made this special youth recognition possible.
