Readers’ Column for the week of June 3, 2018

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

Thank you to all involved in redoing Swartlick Road. I have lived here 27 years and have complained for the past five years. The road was terrible. Hallelujah!

~

Congratulations to Stacy and Aaron at the Rainbow Trail for their first successful Bike Night. There were over 97 motorcycles there for their very first opening of it. It was great! Things will only get better!

~

Stop and think about it. All these women and their encounters with Mr. Weinstein, it wasn’t because he was handsome or the most gorgeous guy in Hollywood or whatever. They were for the money then and booze was behind it. Check them out, you can bet your bottom dollar; every one of them at some time during their episode had a glass in their hand.

~

Can anything be done about open fires, mostly smoke in the villages and in town? The smoke comes into my home; I don’t know what to do. I guess nothing can be done, it happens all the time. Can something be done about not having open fires in town?

~

Is there anyone in the Newark Valley area that does lawn mower repair?

~

The son of Tom Libous has announced he’s running for office. He states he learned everything from his father. That’s very concerning as his father was in trouble with the law and I believe this one was also.

~

Needed, help with yard work, no perfume or aftershave. Call (607) 205-2120.

~

I’m reading your paper and see someone is having a problem with chipmunks. I have a way that’s absolutely positive to get rid of them. I don’t know how you’d put that in the paper. That person can give me a call at (607) 271-0026 and ask for Sue.

~

Thanks to the reader who called in to explain low voter turnout for the school budgets. Those of us are still sane, are not school district employees or related to such, or no longer have children from grades kindergarten through 12. We have figured out long ago “the fix is in” and voting against the budget is futile, while the cost per student to educate in New York State is vastly more than in any other states, the system to remedy the situation and the notion of having some common sense and accountability from Albany on down is simply not there and the odds are stacked against us. Why do you think school administration around here is so top heavy?

~

Could somebody tell me how to get rid of a bunch of stuffed animals?

~

It’s great, there’s a movement to legalize marijuana. I’ve been saying that since 1969.

~

Another school shooting. There should be mandatory life sentence without parole, no plea bargains. They should take off how to make bombs on the computer and most of all, parents have to take accountability for who their children hang with, what’s in their bedrooms, what’s on their computers, where they are, and consider their behavior. Come on parents, keep a close eye on your kids, it’s about time you step up – especially if there are guns in the house.

~

I think there should be a law against having campfires in town. The smoke comes into people’s homes. I can see if you are heating with wood fire, I can deal with that in the winter time. In the summertime you should be able to open your windows, enjoy the fresh air; but you can’t because people have their campfires going, for five hours now, smoke constantly in the house. Can’t get away from it. It’s not right, what can you do? Campfires are for when you go camping, you’re out in the woods and everybody else has campfires going and are enjoying it, not in a town. It’s just not right!

I’m calling in regards to someone needing mowing and trimming on a small yard in a mobile home park off Route 38. My name is Shawn, and my number is (607) 972-9880.

~

Another school shooting! It makes me want to crawl right into my hole and pull the hole in right after me. There is only one real solution to this problem. More gun laws isn’t going to take care of it, taking people’s guns away isn’t going to do it. People need to have a change of heart. People need to have their hearts changed by Jesus. That is the only solution, really. Not playing the blame game, blaming the NRA and all this other stuff going on. People need to have a change of heart.

~

We must stop this killing. We must stop our children killing children. Stop it in its tracks. What’s it lead to? More killing. Stop it now or be damned.

~

I’m calling in to see who is in charge of the Apalachin boat ramp. The driveway going in, there is a huge bump. If they could fix it I would surely appreciate it.

~

I’m so happy the royal wedding didn’t interfere with my TV viewing of the 143rd running of the Preakness. Go Justified! What a beautiful horse!

~

If anyone is interested in a hospital bed, please leave your number in this column. It’s free.

~

I’d like to wish the Town of Owego Highway, Jarhead, a belated happy birthday and I understand he’s a short timer. Boy, I know three stooges in bad shape when he’s gone.

~

I have to object to last week’s caller that stated the town of Berkshire is doing a good job getting rid of junk cars. I can’t see where they have done anything. On Railroad Avenue there are six junk cars, not 20 yards from the road. So the town has not done a good job of cleaning that junk up.

~

I, too, saw the election inspector with a Congressional Candidate badge on while doing her job at the Owego Free Academy district vote last week. I think that is wrong, I think she and her supervisor should step down, that is totally inappropriate.

~

I would like to know when they are going to fix the road in St. Pat’s Cemetery – it’s almost impassable. If you have a truck you are okay, but if you have a car it’s very difficult to get through there. It’s a mess.

~

I see the Village of Owego has Evergreen Cemetery looking like a hayfield. It is a shame it was allowed to get in such a shape of disrepair. I hope this gets fixed and fast.

~

What is wrong with this state? These idiots that are running this state are putting $120 million Expo Center on the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse and $0 into failing septic systems and water systems for cities in New York State. Wow!

~

In the summer the Susquehanna River may be nice to look at, but it doesn’t look so nice when it’s in your house.

~

I would like to say thanks to the two nice gals who were very helpful to me in the Price Chopper lot at about 6 p.m. last Thursday. It was surely not expected, but you made my day.

~

A shout out to Home Central for investing in a new store in Candor. It’s great to have a shopping experience and find all the items there, when one would have had to drive to the Owego store.

~

I want to thank Lockheed Martin for sponsoring the Memorial Day program on Public television Sunday evening. The whole program made me proud to be an American, and when it was over and the “credits” said Lockheed had sponsored it, it made me doubly proud to be from Owego.

~

The new Apalachin Fire Station is nice, but I would like to know who is paying the electric bill there. It is totally and brightly lit inside and out, day and night!

~

“I’ve been told straight by a vet that I can go to a VA hospital and be prescribed opiates, Adderall – anything if they play their cards right, and then go sell the pills on the streets – just so they can buy cannabis and heal themselves.” – Derek Cloutier, Veteran

National Political Viewpoints

The Marxist Democrat buffoons, like Pelosi, hate Trump so much they support the North Korean dictatorship, MS 13, open borders and even spying on Trump rather than to support the U.S.A. They are outright traitors to our country.

~

Has anybody out their noticed the inflation? Has anybody out their noticed the rise in property taxes? And here’s a stupid question, has anybody ever noticed a rise in gas prices? Go Trump and all you cronies, go to the bank. Enjoy, enjoy! If you want to live like a Republican, vote Democrat. Get with it unless you like this. Make American great again?

~

Whoever left a message saying when John McCain steps down from his senate seat there’s a good chance it would be flipped to Republican. I don’t know who you are but obviously you are not paying attention because John McCain is a Republican. Check your facts.

~

You can tell a Democrat but you can’t tell them much. Truth is not in their vocabulary. The stupidity of complaining about Ben Carson and his abilities, it’s apparent the Democrats forgot who was running HUD during the Clinton monarchy. It was emperor Andrew Cuomo and de Blasio. Shortly thereafter, the housing industry fell down the toilet. You can fool a Democrat but not a deplorable. Let’s hope this week the errors stop. Go Trump!

~

How stupid does a person have to be to still believe a person who has lied to them over 3,000 times? Good question, right?

~

Trump should shut his mouth already about kneeling at football games. He tarnishes everything. He, himself, is a draft dodger and his wonderful boys never served and he’s mouthing off because a few players are kneeling? Give me a break! Good for them! Remember when Trump said thousands had celebrated on 9/11 on rooftops? Lies, lies and more lies.

~

I believe they should have investigators investigate the investigators who are going to investigate the investigators.

~

Donald Trump, he’ll defend your 2nd amendment rights – right to the hilt, but he wants very badly to take away our 1st amendment rights. Think about it, get educated.

~

So let me get this straight, the Liberal Democrats are yelling that the new tax relief bill passed by the Republicans is only for the rich. If that is so, why are the democratic states like New York trying to pass a bill to protect the rich? The majority of people were protected with a $10,000 cap for property taxes. You mean to tell me the rich in New York need help paying the taxes on their house? Wake up!

~

Isn’t it about time this country got back on track? The healthcare system is a disaster, helping the aging is a disaster, and the postal service is getting worse all the time – even though the price of postage goes up.

~

Donald Trump was going to meet with Robert Mueller; Donald Trump was going to meet with Kim Jung Un. If you have an ounce of common sense you know that neither one of those situations was ever going to happen.

~

Thank God we live in the United States. We have a democracy strong enough it’s going to survive Donald Trump, probably thrive from it.

~

Talk about the Democrats not knowing the facts, somebody better tell the Republicans that Ivanka was never married to Trump.

~

The Democratic leaders like Pelosi have degenerated into insanely defending the humanity of MS13 gang members who President Trump rightly called animals. What a hoot! We also know now that the Obama FBI planted a spy in the Trump campaign. So much for our constitutional privacy rights. How long before Mueller personally questions Obama? Don’t hold your breath.

~

To the person who thinks Fox News is the real news. Hannity is as full as crap as Trump. Neither one of them could know the truth if it bit them in the butt.

~

If you don’t care about the environment, vote Trump and his buddy Scott Pruitt of the EPA. If you don’t want clean water, vote Trump and his buddy Scott Pruitt of the EPA. If you don’t care about your children and good family values, vote Trump. It’s as simple as that. Did you ever hear one person tell their children to be like Donald Trump?

~

Start up New York. Get rid of emperor Cuomo, shmuck Schumer, foul mouth Gillibrand, and the sewer Democrats in Albany and D.C. I’d rather live next to a frack gas well than a sanctuary city or a Democrat. Go Trump!

~

I was wondering if the person in this column last week, who stated that Barack Obama wrote in his book that he hated white people, could call again and leave the title of that book and the exact page where that quotation could be found. I would like to review it myself.

~

I could not believe the low comment printed last week about Melania Trump’s English. The beautiful First Lady speaks six languages, I am sure it’s 6 more than last week’s caller. Her accent is very becoming. I could listen to her speak all day. Maybe there’s something wrong with the caller’s hearing. I’d say last week’s caller suffers from the big and dangerous “J”, jealousy and I will pray for you.

~

I was surprised to read some of your callers are just realizing Governor Cuomo cares more about others than New Yorkers, but that’s just like Obama and Clinton. Do you realize they are all Democrats?

~

A remark by a White House aid saying, “Oh, he’s dying anyway,” has nothing to do with politics. It’s cold hearted and callous, pure and simple.

~

What is wrong with you people that you can’t see what Donald Trump is doing to this country? Are you really that ignorant, you don’t see it or are you just that stubborn that you won’t admit it!

~

So let the get this right, Trump is going to have the investigators investigated. If these investigators find that there was nothing wrong with their process, is he going to have the investigators who investigated the investigators investigated? This is so childish!

~

I’ve got Mr. Trump outdone by double figures by age. I’ve never seen a president like this and anybody as dumb as he is; he’s going to demand stuff from the FBI? He is stupid!

~

Why can’t Mr. Trump stop blaming the Dems, Hillary and President Obama? Stop focusing on a proven, non-existent witch-hunt, and stop the boo hooing and focus on the country. He’s just a little crybaby who’s in over his head.

~

Thank goodness, Obama, in collusion with Putin’s useful Green idiots, couldn’t weaponize the EPA enough to stop fracking on private land. Gas prices have peaked, the evils of Russia and Iran thwarted, oil money has been going to American’s rather than dictatorships, oil profits (dividends) are going into pension plans and 401(k)s, more taxes are being paid, Trump has geopolitical leverage, and America, more than anyone else, has reduced its carbon emissions. Deaths due to lung cancer induced by radioactivity, poisoned water, flaming faucets, exploding sewers, mega quakes, and all other scare scenarios haven’t materialized. Couldn’t we use fracking tax revenue to fund Cuomo’s mythical and dangerous plan to “Green Energy” by 2050? So instead of deriving so desperately needed new tax revenue from oil and gas, bosses Cuomo and de Blasio are going to legalize marijuana. Colorado’s legalization of dope has created a powerful dope lobby and they are here now. There are fortunes to be made selling dope to elementary and junior high school students. Crooked New York politicians will push legalization for desperately needed tax revenue. The real motivation is new tribute from the swamp mobsters. Further, we know for a fact that dope isn’t a gateway drug to the opioid crisis. I guess we can justify dope taxes to fund the fight against opioid abuse, make sense? Connect the dots – gambling, drugs, etc.

~

Well, look there. A good guy with a gun stopped the killing of a lot of innocent people. The NRA adage, “A good guy with a gun is the remedy to a bad guy with a gun,” works, just doesn’t fit the narrative and agenda of the Libs and the media. Good guys with guns prevent upwards of about 77,000 incidents per year on average, but you never hear of it do you?

~

Netflix signed a $65 M deal with Obama. With his charisma and good looks, Obama will star in remakes of the Lone Ranger, I Spy, and The Twilight Zone. Not. This no-show job is payback for Obama’s grab to control the Internet via Net Neutrality.
