Genius Hour project to support troops

Dear Editor,

We are 5th grade students at Apalachin Elementary School (AES) working on a Genius Hour project to send supplies to our troops. This is our second year doing this project with the help of Mrs. Gibson.

We’d like to expand our collections beyond AES and invite the community to help us. Each grade has been asked to bring in nonperishable items such as granola bars, trail mix, beef jerky or Slim Jims, tuna or chicken in a pull tab can or pouch, cookies (especially chocolate chip and peanut butter), powered drink mixes for bottled water, and salty snacks.

All donated items will be sent to soldiers from Broome and Tioga County that are actively serving.

Donations can be dropped off at the Apalachin Elementary School on Pennsylvania Avenue, or at The Owego Pennysaver, located at 181-183 Front St. in Owego. Thank you for your consideration.
