Stray Haven expands dog obedience classes

Kristi Snyder, president of the Board of Directors at Stray Haven Humane Society & SPCA, has announced that Stray Haven is doubling the frequency of their dog obedience classes. This is in response to the popularity of the classes and strong demand.

Carol Meyer, director of the dog obedience program for Stray Haven, indicated that there would be four different sessions this year. The first session will begin on Monday, May 14 and will run for eight weeks. These classes are for dogs of all ages.

Each session will start with an orientation class for people only, followed by seven weeks for you and your dog to bond while developing basic obedience skills such as sit, lay down, heal, come and more. Classes are held at Stray Haven, located at 194 Shepard Rd. in Waverly, N.Y.

Session 1 will run on Mondays from May 14 through July 2, from 6 to 7 p.m. Session 2 will run on Thursdays, from May 17 to July 5 from 6 to 7 p.m. Session 3 will run on Mondays from July 23 to Sept. 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. Session 4 will run on Thursdays, from July 26 through Sept. 13 from 6 to 7 p.m.

There is a $75.00 fee for the class that includes a training collar and lead. If you have previously brought a dog through the program, and are bringing the same dog, the fee is $65.

You must pre-register for Session 1 or Session 2 by May 1. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first served basis. Classes do tend to fill up quickly. Proof of current vaccinations and payment is required with registration.
