Since the election results came in, my days have been very busy. I would like to use this column to keep you informed of what’s happening in our village.

The village is hiring, were looking for a code enforcement officer and a bookkeeper.

I have had meetings with the police department, fire department, public works department and sewer department to come up to speed on various topics.

There are multiple large development projects going on in the village, like the new building on Front Street that will house Tioga County Tourism and a Welcome Center, and apartment living in the upper floors.

There is also a new apartment complex in the works across the river behind the current Owego Gardens.

Your village board is working on the following items – next year’s budget; a new building for our public works department, paid for by New York state; a major upgrade to the sewer plant; and support to the Owego Fire Department moving forward with a plan for billed EMS services.

We will have representatives (including myself) in the Owego Little League opening day parade on April 28.

You will also see the street cleaner coming around to clean up from the winter, and we have named April and May “Project Clean Sweep.” To encourage village pride and help the street sweeper do the best job it can, we are asking if you can sweep your sidewalks and along the curbs to make the village look in top shape for spring and summer.

The village board meetings are now posted to YouTube in and effort to provide a more transparent government and keep residents informed (search “Village of Owego board meeting 2018” to find them).

I am holding office hours at the Mayor’s office inside the village offices at 178 Main St. Contact the clerk’s office for exact hours; I am available to meet or talk on the phone outside of the set office hours also.
