Paw Prints

Question: I have two cats at home and was considering adopting another one. Is it better to adopt a female or male cat?

Answer: First of all, yay! Congratulations! Kitties are wonderful and once you start collecting, it is very hard to stop. I, of course, speak from experience with my brood of FIVE!

Second of all and most importantly, you need to measure the stress level and current relationships in your home. Are your other two kitties happy and getting along or do they just tolerate each other? Introducing a third cat into the mix may upset the balance of the house.

As amazing as cats are and as much as I would like to have ALL of them, we as owners need to realize the only reason you are getting another cat is for yourself. Felines are solitary creatures and don’t seek companionship like dogs and humans do. In the wild they can live perfectly fine on their own and will come together in groups to mate or socialize a bit.

That being said, if you think your home can handle another fuzz ball, then I would probably get a male. Most cats live in matriarchal societies where the females are boss. People usually find it easier to introduce males into a group where a single female is in charge.

Question: As a puppy, our yellow lab, Lucy, had a black nose. She is going on eight years now and the darkness of her nose has started to fade to light brown. Should we worry?

Answer: Nope! That is normal. As Lucy ages, the pigment in her nose becomes diluted and her once shiny black nose is now a shiny beige nose. As long as her nose has its normal cobblestone pattern and isn’t crusty, thickened or sprouting any growths, then all is okay. If you are still worried, pop into your vet’s office for a quick check up!
