On March 22, award-winning poet, Darren Sardelli, visited Candor Elementary School. Students were able to enjoy his funny poems about topics that are familiar to children during two school day assemblies.

In addition to entertaining students, Sardelli discussed poetry elements such as rhythm, rhyme, and how to create poems with surprise endings.

However, the presentations focused on more than just poetry. Sardelli weaved in motivational messages of working hard, never giving up, taking risks, and using creativity.

Between assemblies, selected students were able to interview the poet during an Author´s Lunch. That night, Candor Elementary students had the opportunity to bring their families back to school for another presentation of Darren Sardelli´s poems.

These engaging and interactive programs were funded by a grant from the Floyd Hooker Fund of the Community Foundation for the Twin Tiers, made possible by generous donors since 2003.
