Twin Tiers Honor Flight seeks veterans for free honor trip

According to the National World War II Museum, those who served in World War II are now in their 80’s and 90’s, and of the 16 million Americans who served in World War II, there were an estimated 558,000 still alive in 2017. With nearly 640 World War II veterans dying each day, there will be very few, if any, surviving World War II veterans by the year 2021.

The Twin Tiers Honor Flight is on a mission to fulfill the dreams of our veterans, both men and women who served in battle, as support, or in the medical field, to travel absolutely free to their war memorial(s) in Washington D.C. Top priority is given to senior veterans such as World War II survivors and those terminally ill who fought in later conflicts.

On May 12, 2018, the Twin Tiers Honor Flight will be flying their 7th mission out of Binghamton, N.Y., with approximately 80 veterans for a day of honor and for the veterans to see their memorials for the first time.

In a press release, Twin Tiers Honor Flight representatives stated, “While we’re excited about Mission 7, plans are already in the works for future missions and we’re looking for veterans who would like to travel with us.”

The Twin Tiers Honor Flight is a small organization covering the Cortland, New York area all the way to the Wilkes-Barre area. Many veterans haven’t heard of the Twin Tiers Honor Flight and, in turn, don’t realize that they’re eligible for the trip, free of charge.

If you know a veteran who would like to be part of an upcoming Twin Tiers Honor Flight, have them fill out an application at http://twintiershonorflight.org/ or call 1-800-683-5403.
