In Candor, ‘Anything Goes’

In Candor, ‘Anything Goes’Anything Goes, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter, and based on the book by Guy Bolton, P.G. Wodehouse, Howard Lindsay, and Russel Crouse will be performed at the Candor High School Auditorium on March 17 and 18. Saturday’s performance is at 7 p.m., and Sunday’s performance is at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $7 general admission, and both performances will take place in the school’s auditorium.

Anything Goes is set aboard the ocean liner S. S. American, where nightclub singer and evangelist Reno Sweeney (Mary Standinger, senior) is en route from New York to England.

Her pal Billy Crocker (Ty’vone Benners, sophomore), has stowed away to be near his love, Hope Harcourt (Stella Garrard, junior); but the problem is Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord, Evelyn Oakleigh (Johnathan Bruno, freshman).

Joining this love triangle on board the luxury liner are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin (Jebadiah Parillo, junior) and his sidekick-in-crime Bonnie (Selah Ray, freshman).

With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

The performances are directed by Amelia O’Hara and Gary Holmes and choreographed by Hilary Schilling; costume design by Cathleen Doane.
