Job Fair taking place in Owego on Wednesday

The Tioga County Business Services Team will be hosting the 4th Annual Tioga County Job Fair on Wednesday, March 7, at the Owego Treadway Inn and Conference Center on Route 17C in Owego, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There are 109 employers participating in this year’s event, and all of these employers will have open jobs that they are hoping to fill. Employment opportunities will include entry level to professional positions, and will cover a broad spectrum of occupations.

Many employers today utilize online applications to locate potential candidates for job opportunities, making it difficult for job seekers to connect personally with employers. This event provides an excellent opportunity for job seekers to meet and network with employer representatives in person.

Job seekers will receive a packet at the job fair registration desk on March 7 with a list of employers, table numbers, and jobs available with that employer.

Any job seekers wanting more information on jobs available, or who would like to pre-register for the job fair can stop in to their local Workforce office. The Tioga Employment Center is located at 1062 Route 38, Owego, or Tioga Employment Center personnel can also be reached at (607) 687-8483.

A list of employers can be found on the Tioga Employment Center Facebook page.

Job seekers can also access the New York State Department of Labor website at newyork.us.jobs to view current open positions, or can visit individual employer websites to view their job postings.

Please join the Tioga County Business Services Team for this great event that helps connect job seekers with employers and job opportunities in the area.

  1. The decision to discontinue pre-employement drug screening is a very short sighted one that will prove to be very costly to employers. There are many studies that show drug users cost employers $7,000/year more than a non-drug using employee. They have other softer costs higher absenteeism, 50% more likely to make a workers compensation claim, higher health insurance use. The proponents of legalized marijuana don”t publish those numbers nor will they reimburse employers for those costs. Failure to drug test goes against an employers obligation to take all reasonable measures to maintain a safe workplace and opens them up for negligence suits from other employers, customers and the public. Look at the data from Connecticut their evaluation of legalized marijuana showed the millions of dollars of impact to employers. Just not strategic.
