On April 7, from 2 to 4 pm., the Newark Valley Historical Society will host an open house offering a peek in the boxes from their extensive collection of historical objects. The open house will take place at the Newark Valley Municipal Building’s Rollie Noble Room and is free and open to the public.

Here is your chance to see a few of the wonderful collection items, which have been tucked away in storage boxes for many years. On view will be some of the beautiful costumes, quilts and coverlets, toys and other items owned and cared for by the Society.

Community members have donated most of the objects since 1976, when the Society began collecting. The second annual open house is an opportunity to “show off” some of these seldom seen treasures.

Like many museums and historical societies, they have many more things in storage than can be exhibited at a given time due to space limitations.

The collections committee will be on hand to talk about these items and the work they have been doing with the collections records since last year. The work includes moving these items from a previous storage area and updating the collections records.

For those who are willing to venture upstairs, members will be happy to show off the new storage and work area.
