Bassett Youth Foundation announces 2018 student scholarships

For the 24th year, the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation, Inc. is offering scholarships to graduating seniors in high schools to honor Bassett family members and other outstanding citizens who have made significant contributions to their communities.

The Foundation has launched its 2018 student scholarships in New York high schools in Owego, Binghamton, Morris, Herkimer and Cooperstown, and in South Bend, Indiana and Wichita, Kansas.

It is pleased to be offering a new Robert Merwin Family Fine Arts Scholarship this spring at Owego Free Academy. This scholarship recognizes the life and legacy of Owego artist, Robert Merwin, and awards student success in academics and in art courses, a desire and exploration of art education and art media, demonstrated tastefulness, craftsmanship and serious and enthusiastic interest in fine art, especially painting, and an exemplary record of good character and kindness to all.

The other Owego Free Academy student scholarships include the Robert V. R. Bassett Scholarship, Harriett and Charles Hibberd Bassett Scholarship, David P. Beere Family Scholarship, Louise and Robert Woodburn Family Scholarship and the Eudora and Fred Shuler Family Scholarship.

Applications are available in the counseling office at the Owego Free Academy and students will be awarded their Owego scholarships on Friday, May 18, 2018 at a ceremony in the Bassett Ah-Wa-Ga Center located at 34 1/2 Lake St. in Owego.
