‘Mid-winter Candlelight’ at the Walk-Up Gallery

The Walk-Up Gallery and Studio Spaces, located at 179 Front St. and on the second floor above Tioga Arts Council, will be open for First Friday’s Art Walk on Feb. 2, from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is invited to view new work, and works in progress from Carolyn Campbell, Suzanne Poe, and Alice Mischke in each artist’s studio.

Also known as Candlemas, Imbolic or Ground Hog’s Day, Feb. 2 is the exact middle of winter; after it, days will lengthen, lambs will be born, signs of spring will gradually appear (very gradually).

They will light (flameless) candles and celebrate the advent of mid winter with art, a big indoor project and refreshments. All are invited to join them.

Carolyn will be demonstrating the process of pinning a quilt to a basting frame in preparation for machine quilting. The center gallery space will be used for the large basting frame to be set up. Bring your ideas and questions, and come watch the steps for final preparation of a quilt. Classes are available for those inspired to work on sewing projects.

The Walk-Up Gallery and Studio Space is open each Friday of the month from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the year, and the first Friday of each month from 5 to 7 p.m.

When they are working in their studios throughout the week, they invite the public to visit as well; just look for the open studio sign, and walk on up.

They also look forward to participating in the Spring 2018 Tioga Arts and Agricultural Trail on May 12 and 13.
