Arrest made following act of cruelty shared on social media

On Monday, Jan. 29, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 17-year old male and Newark Valley High School student with animal cruelty following the posting of a graphic video on social media of a live squirrel being flushed down a toilet. 

The video, which went viral after it was posted, caused outrage among other students, as well as members from the community. 

The animal cruelty charge resulted from an investigation into the video, and the male was issued an appearance ticket to appear before Justice Peggy Anderson, Town of Richford Court, on Feb. 26, 2018.

On Monday night, the Tioga County Sheriff’s Office arrested a student from Newark Valley High School following the posting of a graphic video on social media of a live squirrel being flushed down a toilet.

The video, which went viral after it was posted, caused outrage among other students, as well as members from the community. 

On Tuesday morning, Sheriff Gary Howard confirmed that an arrest was made on Monday night, and that there may be more arrests. 

A press release regarding the arrest and incident is anticipated, although the names will not be released because of their age.
