Readers’ Column for the week of Jan. 21, 2018

You may call the Owego Pennysaver Readers’ Column at (607) 687-2378 24-hours a day, or e-mail comments to readerscolumn@stny.rr.com. We reserve the right to revise or reject any message.

I am looking to knit hats for preemies and babies, and also bears and stuffed animals for EMS to use on their calls. I am in need of yarn, and all size needles. This is a project I’m working on. I’m disabled, and this is a good way to spend my time. I’ll be making booties too. You can drop the yarn and needles off at the Owego Pennysaver during office hours. Thank you in advance.

At the Broome County Public Library I heard they had a thing for children call Drag Queen Story Time. Let me just say that I disagree with having drag queens read to our children in the Binghamton Public Library.

~

Why do I have to suffer and watch all these quit smoking commercials? If one wants to smoke, let them. It’s their health and if it’s ruined, it’s their choice. Stop with the commercials already.

~

Without a doubt, I think drag queens reading to our children is creepy. How does everybody else feel?

~

This message is to the individuals that ran me off the road on Montrose Turnpike last Saturday night. I’d just like to say even emergency vehicles will follow proper road conditions with respect.

~

Thank you so much for the electric bed, it was a fantastic gift and very much appreciated! Thank you!

~

Does anybody have an address for the History channel? I can’t find a thing online on how to write to the History channel. Any help out there from the readers?

~

I think there should be more signage to emphasize headlights being on during inclement weather. Also, I think they need to put up more signs indicating that driving on the shoulder of the road is illegal.

~

I live on Ross Hill Road in Barton N.Y. and I am just wondering what all my tax dollars are paying for when we have no road crew coming up and down and cleaning our roads. We still have ice all over the roads since our major storm last Friday. Please someone look into this. Thank you.

~

Okay, so here’s the deal, so we pay a water bill every quarter, right? That is four water bills per year. So, now the water department sewer system, Town of Waverly, has decided because this sewer system has to be repaired, $39.00 each time you get a bill is expected to be added onto the bill to pay for this repair job. What happened to the money that we have been paying for all along in case anything could happen? They call it insurance, I think. Come on; straighten me out like that guy did about the helicopter flying too low. Come on straighten me out. Have a great day and answer me. I’d like to hear the answers on this.

I’m looking for somebody to teach guitar lessons. Someone in the Candor or Owego area. Please call 659-3871.

Well the articles on Florence Chauncey voting are interesting, but on Nov 5, 1872 Susan B Anthony and eight others voted in the Presidential election in their hometown of Rochester, N.Y. Not attempted to vote. Voted. Miss Anthony was tried and convicted of illegal voting. Not for attempting to vote. For voting.

Conklin Raiders 16U fastpitch travel team is looking for a strong player with the desire to work hard and play harder. The player must be able to commit to the travel time and mandatory practices. All positions will be considered. If interested, please contact Head Coach Joe Roman at (607) 731-6877 to set up an individual tryout.

The new three-hour delay idea is a joke. Exactly how much is going to get done with kids getting started around 10 a.m. and leaving at 2:30 p.m.? Hair brained idea.

~

There were tens of thousands of students at the mall Jan. 5? Must have missed that news.

National Political Viewpoints

Jennifer Palmieri, a Clinton Democrat stooge, just stated the purpose of DACA was to secure future Democrat votes. This perhaps is the only honest statement you will ever hear from a Democrat. President Trump should never trust a Democrat.

~

The people in this area really need to vote Claudia Tenney out of office. These lies she’s telling on TV are just bull. How many of you people really think you are going to get a $2,000 tax cut? You wait and see what your checks are, you are going to be surprised, and you’re going to be disappointed. She can say what she wants because just like all Republican lies, once it’s said it’s said, and if you prove it later she’ll retract it. And, by the way, these great tax cuts, you might get a few pennies back but the billionaires are getting a huge tax cut of millions and millions. You know what? It might sound fine and dandy, like who cares; you know who’s going to care when they start cutting Social Security and Medicare next year, because they’ve already said they are going to do it to balance the budget because they need to cut revenue. Doesn’t that really sound nice?

~

Nancy Pelosi says that the bonuses, as high as $1,000, that the hard working Americans are getting because of the recent tax cut put forth by Mr. Trump are nothing but crumbs. Well, she’s a multimillionaire and I guess $1,000 would be considered crumbs. How insensitive and how out of touch is she with the American people!

~

I wondered how Trump got all the votes he got so I looked it up in the dictionary. The definition of a Republican in the dictionary is an undeveloped brain, unable to think for themselves with a very low IQ, does not like to work but loves guns.

~

Congratulations to Kentucky for finally waking up. Medicaid recipients now have to work 80 hours a month to get free benefits. All this will do is send most people to non-working Medicaid states such as New York who already have high taxes and taxes will continue to go through the roof. If I can recall, before I retired I worked 160 hours a month just in overtime. I hope they can handle the heavy workload.

~

Trump is a danger to this United States because he’s an idiot. He has no real opinion of his own, he’s so easily swayed by anybody in the moment. He’s a fool! He needs to be impeached.

~

The Clinton chickens are coming home to roost. The slimy pay for play Clinton scandal to let Russia control 20 percent of U.S.A. uranium is about to break loose. Evey wonder why the Clinton’s are worth $350? Stay tuned!

~

Is Governor Cuomo and his administration doing a great job for New York? I don’t think so. We are over $5 billion in debt, and we have a $5 billion plus deficit for New York State. So what do you think?

~

The media’s opinion of the presidency has changed. When Obama was president they felt that he could do no wrong. Now that Trump is in office, the media jumps on everything he does.

~

I’m so tired of the left and the main stream media. They are all so one sided. It’s no wonder their ratings continue to fall. I’d like to see them all lose their jobs and be replaced by true journalists. We deserve that.

~

If you people are such fools that you believe what President Trump says, then you deserve him as president; but what about the rest of us that actually have some common sense?

~

In response to another caller, my wife and I voted for Claudia Tenney and we will again. We believe in the Trump agenda and so do Claudia and Tom Reed. We voted for their agenda because we were tired of do nothing politicians. Go Tenney and go Reed!

~

I think the Democrats have to become the same lowlifes like the Republicans are. Like they say, if you can’t beat them join them because that’s what they are, they’ve become lowlifes.

~

I know President Trump had a physical just the other day. I wonder if they checked between his ears.

~

The Department of Justice finally has plans to jail political leaders of corrupt state and sanctuary cities that failed to enforce our immigration laws. Go Trump!

~

Stock market on the rise, it went from $18,000 to $26,000 since Mr. Trump has been elected; and the nay sayers said the stock market would drop and never recover if he was elected. The nay sayers must be Democrats.

~

So now at least maybe you will see companies have announced they will repatriate a total of 1.3 trillion, that’s trillion not billion dollars, from overseas to build new U.S.A. factories and create new U.S.A. jobs. Will the lame stream media shout this news from the rooftops? You can bet only FOX news will. Go Trump!

~

Ya gotta love it. Jeff Flake and Senator John McCain make a big speech condemning President Trump’s on-going conflict with the media. Who started it? The media did. Then why is the condemnation not on BOTH, why just on President Trump? Why hasn’t the media been condemned for their constant negative reporting of President Trump and his accomplishments? Doesn’t the media realize what fools they’re making of themselves with this constant drumbeat of negative? The voting public is tired of it and pays no attention to their blather, just tune out!

~

Only in New York. Presidential wannabee Coumo is proposing a “Congestion” and “Internet Fairness” tax. Instead of using tax money to maintain roads, toll bridges, tunnels, subways and trains he is going to put a tax fence around New York State incompetence and graft. In order to skirt around Federal tax reform he is going to institute an illegal payroll tax. This will insure the rich won’t pay their fair share. Thanks for the creative genius. I had no idea the Internet was so unfair. Instead let’s introduce a Fairness Tax. Either everybody has their pension and 401(k) tax, or New York State public employees start paying state income tax on their pensions. With that money one Tappan Zee Mario Coumo Bridge could be built annually. Tappan Zee is the historic name of the local indigenous people.

~

Would you support a religious leader (your pastor, priest, rabbi, imam) who had many allegations of sexual harassment or had paid hush money for consensual sexual liaisons outside of marriage? Would you support a school principal who lied to the board of education repeatedly? How about a local government official who had laundered money for the Russian mob? Would you hire a contractor who had a reputation for not paying the subcontractors who did good work for him/her? Would you purchase a set of kitchen cabinets from a company who had gone bankrupt repeatedly and taken customers’ down payments? It not, then I hope you do not suspend your moral compass and support a president who has credibly done these actions. Family values are still important, especially in our country’s leader!

~

Now we have various members of Congress, all Liberal Democrats, threatening to not attend the State of the Union address by President Trump. No big loss in my book.

~

What’s with all the concern with Judge Jeanine Pirro? I’m sure she paid all her fines. If this is her first offense does that mean she goes to jail? Get over it and move on. The local radio announcer put a challenge out to her. He must have a slow news day. President Trump is doing a great job even with the democrats standing is his way. They said from the get go they would block anything he wants to do good for the American people. They are all poor sports. They all need to move on, help make America Great again, and then after four years put some good ideas forth and maybe the American people will vote for you. You all have a big mouth, but I never hear anything good coming out of them. At least President Trump is trying. He has done a lot of good but you won’t hear any of it on ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and some of the other news channels. FOX news is the only one I listen to now and it seems all this Russian crap they have been spewing about President Trump has come around and bit them in the butt. Keep up the good work President and Mrs. Trump.

~

Does it matter if he used the term S-hole? We all know what he implied. Elizabeth Warren was called Pocahontas, Mexicans called rapists and druggies, a Mexican judge is incompetent, and the list goes on and on. Send the poor little rich boy who doesn’t get his way back to New York City. Of course DACA won’t pass because it’s the Democrats fault. Lie after lie.

~

Only a person who is full of it would stoop to use the s**thole comment.

~

For quite some time now we have had a contributor to this column who consistently uses the term “nobama” to make their point, often slamming the former President by saying he was out golfing. Well today we had an incident where, for at least 38 minutes, the people in Hawaii thought they were about to be attacked by missiles launched from North Korea; and where was our illustrious Commander in Chief, on his golf course in Mar-a-Lago. We won’t even begin to talk about his golfing trips as the people of Puerto Rico continue to suffer in the longest blackout in American history, for which he could care less. It is laughable when anyone on the right throws the golfing dig at Obama. Trump has spent one third of his time as President golfing at one of his properties, over 101 days, and he hasn’t even made it one year in office yet. Trump’s golfing has cost the American taxpayers over 43 million dollars and if you take into account what was spent on his family’s travel that figure rises to 147 million, and that’s just for 2017.

~

Pirro didn’t go to jail for speeding because that’s not an allowable punishment. No one goes to jail for speeding.

~

How did Al Gore make millions selling carbon offsets? Someone obviously doesn’t understand the process. It’s where Company A sells part of its permissible emission volume to Company B. The total remains the same. The distribution changes.

~

Trump stood up to Putin? What have you been smoking?

~

When we fought that repressive power for our freedom the weapons available to both sides were equal. Not so today. Unless I somehow missed seeing rebel air forces, tank battalions and navies. By the way, we needed the French navy and training from the Prussians. We didn’t go it alone.

~

I don’t know about you, but my fuel bill for this past month refutes everything Al Gore has blathered about over the past many years regarding global warming! I mean, 10 years ago he predicted the Polar ice caps would be totally gone. From the feeling of that North wind, they’re still there!
