There will be a memorial service honoring the late Thomas (Tom) and Dorothy (Dot) McCormack on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church located at 117 Main St. in Owego. All are welcome to attend.

Tom and Dot were long-time members of St. Paul’s. Dot, along with their daughter, Susan, sang in the choir. Dot also sang with the Tri-Cities Opera. They moved to Owego with the great migration that was IBM, Owego.

Tom was very active in his new hometown. He was a member of the men’s garden club and he supported the Finger Lakes Library System and the Open Door Mission. The men’s residence there was named after him in gratitude. He also served on the Village Board, as well as in the leadership of many local organizations, including the Vestry of St. Paul’s.

Dot, in addition to being the backbone of her family, helped start a mental health clinic in Owego and was a founding member of the Ti-Ahwaga Players, our community theater group. She was also involved with the United Way of Tioga County and helped out at the Open Door Mission. After raising her family, she went back to work as a real estate agent, still promoting the Owego area.

In 2009, both Tom and Dot were honored with a Community Service Award by the Tioga County Legislature and their plaque still hangs in the County Office Building.
